THe politics aside, this is why I don't mind too much when I miss the evening news.

This is a great example of the power of the internet. Easy access to info will force the news agencies to do better than this...of course, maybe it just means better frauds.

Early on my dad told me to really scrutinize the liberal media. Even if there are pictures I rarely beleive they are pertinent, from context or not doctored.

I think I am happiest visiting foxnews.com for my news.

Photojournalists have always looked for certain angles to take photos from to make their shots look more interesting. Props have also been used for a very long time. Photoshop is relatively new in PJ work and there is a giant debate as to what is ethical and what is not.

My view= photoshop whatever you want to make what was in the photo at the time of pressing the shutter look better. Don't move or add props to make a photo but if you can move the camera to get stuff in the shot, go for it.

Once you start adding stuff, you're lying.

"removing dust spots" uhhh yeah, right.

Oh yeah, don't believe it's just the news services doing this. National Geographic decided to move the Pyramids in one of their issues becuase it "made a better photo"...Yeah, that caused an uproar.

Or you could completely stage the whole event, much like what happens daily in Pallywood, and make a speech celebrating the illegal creation of an overly large new National Monument after cutting down a tree to get the perfect shot..............from a different National Park 100 miles away and in a different state.

Unfortunately, you really do have to take the news with a grain of salt, as in the end they all have agendas other than telling you the truth. Some have political bias to push, and all want to promote whatever their sponsor is selling by increasing viewership. The photographers alter photos because it makes them more dramatic, allowing them to sell more. This sort of thing happens throughout nearly all the news media.

I have never seen a news story about something with which I am closely familiar that didn't have glaring inaccuracies. It gets especially eggregious with aviation stories, which I know because I am a licensed pilot. Stories about genetics and stem cells, my chosen field of endeavor, as riddled with substantive errors and innacuracies. Usually the innacuracies make the stories more dramatic, and I doubt they are there by accident.

The point I am trying to make is that since the stories about the things I know are untrustworthy, I must assume that those concerning things with which I am not familiar are similarly untrustworthy, I am simply unaware of their flaws due to my own lack of expertise. That makes it very difficult for me to belive anything in the mainstream media without some sort of substantiation.

The mainstream media is not telling you the truth.
Don't belive them at face value!
