Re: Global warming two views

If you were a manager, presented with "either scenario one is valid, conclusion do nothing; or scenario two is valid, conclusion cut CO2 emissions signficantly. Scenario one has no cost implications, nor sales implications. Scenario two implies increased cost by 15% but allows sales to continue to grow. Under scenario two, doing nothing produces a 50% reduction in sales. Assumed probabilities 60:40." what would you do?

To make the assumption that view 2 is valid and view 1 invalid with 100% probability is foolish.

I wish the issue wasn't so politicized that we can't really evaluate who's spinning whom. Everybody spouts off and believes what they prefer to believe.

The Inhofe speech is well written - too bad he's never showed any inclination to do anything but trumpet the party line... I can't tell if it's just bullshit of another stripe, the scientific excremental equivalent to Gore's cinematic diarrhea.

All articles and news mention over the past X amount of years the world has been warming up... the end is near...

The world has been warming up since the ice age started to end. Everything is cyclical but that doesnt make for good news or help to seperate people from thier money or get them out of thier seat.

Does everyone think that climatologists are total idiots? That they don't know about natural cycles of climate change? That these things aren't considered in climate modeling programs?

Those of us who live up North know the truth. The natives of the Arctic circle have a long collective memory, and there are things happening that they have never witnessed. I saw the warmest winter last year I ever have, and since moving back North I have definitely not seen the winters I did when I was younger. I have received numerous similar comments from others.

I believe scientists over politicians any day. The current administration has shown its ambivolence for deciding policy on its scientific merits numerous times, it is thus not surprising that it does so with an inconvenient truth like global warming. I just hope we all wake up before it's too late.

Columbus, Ohio is "up North"...

Btw...have you informed any of the major climate research centers about your anecdotal "winters of my youth" data? It sounds like the kind of info they could use...

So the warm middle ages was caused by cows that had farts of CO2 laced with flourocarbons instead of methane? But what happened to cause the mini-ice age... a bunch of gay vikings that went on a decorating binge in Greenland that ate up all the CO2?

Oh and yes climatologists are not all fools but that does not mean they are all geniuses either. Here in Huntsville there is a climatologist that claims it to be total BS. Temperature readings on a global scale are a very new thing so the rest is based on things like tree rings. Then you factor in the statistical variance and poof there goes your end of the world chicken little

Re: Global warming two views

To me, anywhere I can fly to the Canadian border in under an hour in the Cherokee is "up North".

So let me get this straight, since we don't positively know what caused a weather phenomenon 300 years ago, any thoughts about current weather phenomena must be wrong. Is that the logic I see?

You have two views. One is forwarded by politicians, that there is no global warming because it's too expensive. The other is forwarded by scientists, who say that it's happening and we're the likely culprits.

Most scientific discoveries are controversial at first, it should be no different with global warming. John Christy is nearly alone is his ascertations, however. In point of fact it is very very clear that humans can impact the planetary climate, global dimming has proven that unambiguously. Not only are scientists saying this, but I'm seeing it with my own two eyes in my frigid northern perch. O.K., there are likely people from even farther North on the board, and if they think I'm wrong I'd love to hear it. However, barring that I consider my eyes the most accurate and powerful scientific measuring instruments I posses, and I've learned to never ignore them based on what someone else says, especially a politician.

It's called "Global" warming, not "County" warming. WHether or not any individuals have noticed a difference in their particular locale is totally insignificant.

Whilst I think that global warming could be caused by the Sun burning hotter, some natural cyclic weather phenomena or the way Venus lines with with Uranus on any given Sunday, I think it would be foolish to believe that all the pollution we have pumped into the atmosphere over the decades, even centuries, has had no effect on the global climate.

read both links. The one documents the predictions made on this topic. I do remember the big ice age scare in the 70's. I will be totally willing to cut back on green house gases when ALL countries do. You see China and India were exempt from Kyoto and europe (a signatory) is largely non-compliant despite the open criticism they dish out. It is a easy way for the socialists to destroy the free countries.

There was an interesting episode on "South Park" regarding global warming. By watching that show I get all the facts I need relating to current issues without having to sift through piles of editorials. It just makes you a more all-around, knowledgeable person. South Park has also educated me about Scientology, Alcoholics Anonymous, AARP, among other forefront topics.

Why was the summer of 1936 warmer than the summer of 2006 in the U.S.?
Why was the surface temp of the ocean in the "hurricane zone" much cooler this year than the previous years?
What happened to all the massive hurricanes we were supposed to have?
Why are the ice sheets in Antarctica getting thicker?

Re: Global warming two views

Why was the summer of 1936 warmer than the summer of 2006 in the U.S.?
Hitler was worse than George Bush (slightly)
Why was the surface temp of the ocean in the "hurricane zone" much cooler this year than the previous years?
Global warming, it also causes fluctuations
What happened to all the massive hurricanes we were supposed to have?
George Bush
Why are the ice sheets in Antarctica getting thicker?
The Penguins are being killed by the warmth thus there is less Penguin feet warming the surface.

Never let facts interfere with reality when thinking like a leftist, it is all about feelings.

A year does not a trend make.

At least for this year, the water is cooler. But you know that because you already stated it.
