| Re: An Inconvenient Truth I would like to resurrect this thread and see what the current opinions are on this subject. There has been more than enough reassuring evidence in the last year and a half that global warming is real and that we are causing it.
Lets hear your point of view!!! |

| Re: An Inconvenient Truth 100% BS. To the contrary int76, more and more of those same scientists are now changing previous statements, saying they can't be certain the impact humans have on CO2 emissions. Too many variables. At most from what I've read, less than 2% can be traced to us. I can post sites if needed. |

Post what you would like, i would be interested in reading into it. Im not a scientists but have done my fair share of reading and research on the information available. Im a firm believer that we are having a significant impact. The shere numbers of human beings on earth and the technology advance over the last 150yrs is obvious. 1+1=2!!! Im not a green thumper and know I can't do anything to change it, but i sure as hell invested quite a bit of money in the stock market relating to the global warming issue and have made a pretty penny so far. Hoping to double in the next year or so. The more critics there are is just more time i have to invest!!! |

FWIW, I am convinced that the science is accurate enough to be listened to, and to make fundamental decisions on that basis.
And while I see many posts in many places talking about vested interests pumping up the CO2 story for their own benefit, I don't buy it. Instead I do buy the story that a number of people are paid to object in as many venues as they can find, to be professional doubters. Somehow it better fits what my life experiences tells me is the more likely scenario. |

If you've noticed most of the time it's OTH comments about Gore, and that stems from him being a Democrat. People still buy into that Democrat vs. Republican deal, which is utter bullshit I mean a Republican has been in office for almost 8 years, and Republican sheep always mention conservative spending, taxation, etc. This current guy spends money like Paris Hilton sucks dick.
Like you I believe the science is accurate enough to listen to, and make decisions on. I don't get hung up in all the circus sideshow bullshit. |

This is NOT a political issue, this is a global issue. Some references have been made to politics. But this is not a political debate, purely science! |

| Re: An Inconvenient Truth The discussion of MMGW is almost germane at this point. Oil will go away. Perhaps not tomorrow, but eventually. As it stands its getting really expensive, and is going to continue to do so. Moreover, most of the remaining oil is in countries inimical to US interests. Thus we have to utilize our enormously expensive military to secure oil supplies. How much would a gallon of gas cost if we were paying the trillion dollars spent in the Iraqi war with gas taxes? The time is past for political, technological, and social solutions to wean ourselves off this resource. We'll do it eventually, but if we start now we'll at least have some control over the outcome. |

| Re: An Inconvenient Truth If you get time watch the documentary "Crude Awakening". It's got nothing to do with GW but it presents some very interesting facts about the finite amount of oil left in the world. It also isn't political like the Gore film was - at least it didn't seem so to me. |

| Re: An Inconvenient Truth Just something to ponder on guys: Mother Earth is very resilient and hepowerful, almost indestructible, I think. She has survived the collision with her sister planet 300 million years ago, the remnants of which are now the moon, she survived the massive placeruis asteroid 1500 miles wide that struck her 65 million years ago and wiped out all living creatures including the mighty dinosaurs. this explosion of this asteroid threw hot ash into space which then fell toback onto earth and incinerated every thing on her surface.
but hey, within a few million years, earth had healed herself and completely new life forms had evolved, including man. so what does ths tell us. Yes, man is earth's biggest enemy right now and with depletion of minerals and forests, green house gas might well be similar to the efffects of the asteroid 65 million years ago. but, within a few million years, earth would heal and restore all its lost minerlas, oil, coal and forests once again. but man will be gone forever and replaced by another evolutionary form. So, Earth won't die out guys, we would. Man is his greatest enemy. |
