See my above post...Those slaves were either expelled, assimilated, or they left on their own. A different issue entirely.

Re: Regrets for slavery

This whole "Apology" stuff is total bollocks ... in a nutshell so to speak.

I wasn't there, nor were my parents, it's a part of history that's not pleasant but it's technically over but the racial problems still continue, so saying sorry is pointless unless people can REALLY look at other people and be totally 100% colour blind
Ain't happened yet and is highly unlikely to been something for me or my kids to look forwards too in the foreseeable future.

To acknowledge the wrongs of slavery is a good thing of course, and if people could learn something from it even better ..... what odds do you want to give me on that??

What we all need to do is acknowledge and resolve the human trajadies that are happening now not 200 fecking years ago, Iraq, Darfur, Palastine to name 3 off the top of my head as real genuine **** ups that should never have been allowed to continue more than a week.

Does this mean in 200 years America and Britain will say "Sorry" to the people of Iraq for stealing their country for Oil?? Also the deaths of at least 650'000 of their people?? Well that should make it all better then I guess just as the desendants of the slaves bought to us will think "Wow they said Sorry ...... how Big of them"

As I said "A pile of bollocks" I'm embarrassed!!!

Actually I work in an engineering environment that is pretty much color blind. While describing someone may use skin tone or sex it would also likely include age, height and girth. In short a description. That said there is a huge cross section in age, race, sex and size Now race has a corner on being smart nor stupid and if you hire the best available you will get a cross section by default.

I'm reasonably certain that colour blindness and education are linked in some form or another.
I've moved from the South West of of England to the North West where it's not as pretty and higher unemployment, and far lower housing prices and racism is mental and blatant up here. It's one of the biggest changes I've had to endure, as race was not an issue I remember down in the South West ....

And thanks to Gulf War Part Deux going so well at the moment things arn't improving with the Asian sector which is a significant part of life in this corner of the UK

Don't get me wrong, it's not men in pointy hats and church burning from the 'Good ol days' in your Southern States but there is an edge, unfortunately from white people. It's my one regret in relocating.

Sorry if off topic

Yep!
Im really sorry that the Africans sold other Africans into the European slave trade and eventually ended up in America.
I only use Africa because it has happened in the recent past, not profiling.
Would you consider Mexicans coming into America for such low wages to be a form of slavery? We are using them for monetary gain. Right?

See the illegal immigration thread...

The law of supply and demand...Africans wouldn't have sold others into slavery if there was no market...

Also, look at African slavery of the time (1600-1845)...Slaves had status, could marry freely, own property, have free children, etc...NOT what American slave-owners subjected their acquisitions to[sic].

Apparently it's why the UK government is frightened of saying "We're Sorry" as opposed to expressing regret, acceptance of blame

Saying "sorry" is no basis for liability, so no need to fear litigation.

Re: Regrets for slavery

Sorry Bear I can't remember exactly how it goes but there was a big report on the BBC over here about the wording on what the Prime Minister can and can't say regarding the 200th anniversary of the ending of slavery. Suffice to say that a word out of place leaves a 'possibility' of future litigation.
Bottom line he's got to be very careful in this fun world where the US legal firms constantly redefine the depths of depravity that they and other bloodsuckers can crawl to

I am only slightly offended...Again: lawyers don't sue, clients sue. People with an axe to grind sue otherts, and the general population gets pissed at the lawyers...Nonsensical. That is like getting pissed at the "Government" when a president or PM does or says something stupid...It doesn't make sense...

And, no, a word out of place does not leave open future litigation...The cause of action (a right to come into court to seek monetary damages or specific action to redress a grievance) does not mature or attach because a head of state uttered "the" instead of "a" or "rtegret" instead of "sorry." That is foolish propaganda with no basis in law.
