Re: Red State Socialism

Not at all. If you follow the federal requirements, you get more money. If you don't, they hold money back.

The federal gov't decides where the money goes, not the states.

Re: Red State Socialism

Socialism.... so any state that gets significant military dollars is socialist Take NC for example with Ft Bragg. That is constitutional but not income redistribution. Further the military is one of the few items spelled out in the constitution as a federal duty. Adjust the numbers then see what happens

you may be right but you also have to look at the Mid Wester states and deep southern states that dont have anything to do with military. I live in NC and they are on the list of getting more but they are low on the list.

What is usaully the casue is Republican states vote against policies that would give state tax dollars to the citizens, but in turn the citizens need the money and since the state doesnt provide the money the burden shifts directly to the federal gov. Look at the farm subsidies.

Re: Red State Socialism

You are correct this country hasn't been an all out capitilistic country since we started paying graduated taxes, but in this election cycle McCain said socialist and now all Dems are socialist like paying taxes is something new. Obama isnt trying to change the country but just adjust the tax scale.

Re: Red State Socialism

Obama is a socialist.

So Obama isn’t trying to “change” the country. Isn’t his whole platform on it? If all he is trying to do is put the Clinton policies back in place, how is that “change” at all?

Obama talked about campaign reform, but in June he reneged on his words. How is that “change” that he talks about?
He wants to provide health insurance. Tell the people to get a job that provides it. It is not hard at all. Go back to school as well. People just want a free handout.

My idea, you want to be a socialist, open YOUR wallet and pay for the others that are too lazy to change their situation. How long do you think that will last?

as far as health insurance, Alot of jobs dont provide it. I recently graduated and a lot of my firends cant find jobs that provide it. Under McCain if they did provide health insurance they would drop you because they would no longer have to cover you.

"More than 2 million children in the United States who have no health insurance of any kind have at least one parent who gets employer-provided medical coverage. These parents typically get insurance through work that covers them but cannot afford the extra thousands of dollars that may be needed for a plan that also covers their children." Yeah bloody lazy kids. They should be more like their parents and get out of their cots and get a job.

Vote I'm alright Jack!

Re: Red State Socialism

My philosophy always centered around education. Study hard, graduate with honors and good paying jobs with medical benefits for your entire family are not an issue.

It irritates me to no end to see kids that ignored their studies and gave education a low priority, grow up to be adults that beg for State and Federal aid, either for themselves or their children.

My tax dollars are supporting the people that chose to play basketball when I was doing my homework.

Of course this is a simplistic explanation but you get the point.

I'm glad that you recently graduated and I'm sure in four years, you won't be a democrat. As for companies dropping the insurance; don't use a blanket statement. There will be plenty that still provide it.

How to convert a liberal to a conservative.
1) Have them get a job
2) Have them pay taxes

Keep dreaming. Socialism is a way to equalize and according to Marx hapens after a class war.

State gets more money through various programs the feds have. Like roads; if you don't follow the guidelines that the feds have, then you get a reduced amount or nothing at all. That is not socialism at all; but incentives. Incentives do not occur in a socialistic society.

I tell you one thing that has happened under the Bush admin that I hope will maintain
Honey Nut Cheerios reduces cholesterol
Beat that Obama.

Those mid-western states are low on population, meaning low on income taxes so less money to the fed. However, they are high on land area, that's why there are farms, with farm subsidies. Without the farm subsidies you'd be paying $10 a pound for potatoes. All of your food costs would go way up. Iowa, Kansas, Idaho, Nebraska, Wyoming, all very low on population and high on agriculture. Wipe out farm subsidies and you wipe out farms and ranches. Then you get to eat meat imported from Mexico, and corn grown in China. No one is getting rich off of farming, which means no income taxes. Most of them are just barely making it and hoping to be able to pay for next year's seed.

Then which deep southern states are you talking about? Maybe you should do some checking. They all have military bases and many have military hospitals. State-by-State Listing of Major U.S. Military Bases

Look at totals for each state.
