| Re: The Da Vinci Code Dan brown has said that he wrote this story to encourage discussion about religious matters, but it has caused more heat than light. I have even heard that a teenage girl gave up her Christian faith after reading this book, so I do not if this is an indended or unintended consequence. He seems to say that this is a work of fiction, but winks at his audiance. Christians have spoken out against this book & have been accused of protesting too much, with some concluding that it might mean that there must be some validity to it. This thinking reveals bad reasoning. Supossre I was to write a book about your dear mother, protraying her as a whore, but saying to you in the introduction, 'not to worry; this is a book of fiction'. If you come out lambasting my book, some may conclude that it may be true, while others not hearing any repudiation from you may also reach the same conclusion that you must krow she is a whore, thus this bad reasoning. Dan Brown is very clever not to say what is true & what is fiction about Jesus as portrayed in this book, so his so-called research is left unquestioned. Therefore, I strongly suggest that If you truly want to find the historical Jesus, read with an open mind the New Testament, which was proclaimed consistantly by his true disciples before it was ever written down. |
