| Re: Hubble killed God? So, you have to belong to this religion, which follows the book written by committe, to get into the heavenly afterlife. If you live the life of a saint but don't belong to the club you don't get in, because belonging is an entry requirement.
Damn, and they call me elitist! |

Damn, and they call me elitist! | No. You don't have to "belong to this religion". It is a personal relationship with Jesus. You don't buy the membership, you don't earn it, you don't donate to get it, you accept with your heart because it's a free gift from God. The Bible is not a single book, it is a collection of text comprised of older "books", but also letters written to the earlier churches at the time. It was not written by a committee, but instead compiled by one. And it wasn't a small group that took a couple months off at a holiday retreat. Here's a blurb that talks about it in brief: - How Was The Bible Compiled? Look, if I was an elitist, I'd hold up my nose, tell you how you're always wrong, how I'm better than you, etc, and then end this thread. Hehe. But I know I'm no better than you - and I hold that view for anyone else. Even people choosing to believe other religions I don't think I'm better. I think they're misguided, but I respect their diligence in their faith - I just wish they would have a personal relationship with Jesus instead. That is not a put-down to anyone. It's never easy to tell anyone they're wrong about their beliefs. There's a fine line between genuine compassion and looking down on them with pity. I like to think I'm of the former, and not latter. |

| Re: Hubble killed God? This whole thing is really funny. In a sad and frustrating way.
We have a Professor of science here who judges the literary work known as "The Word of God", as describing a Creator who is unfair and unjust, etc.
BUT he has never taken the time, or made the effort to examine for himself what the book actually says!!!!!
Maybe I should start a thread spouting my opinions about science and how all that works, based on my hazy recollections of high school bio and chem classes. Or better yet, repeat commentaries and opinions from "great"minds!
And so the Bible was compiled to rule the masses?
Were these the same folks that were mostly illiterate? That worked out great since those who did rule them and cause them to do horrid things "In the name of God" didn't use Biblical principals anyway.
If y'all want to discredit the Bible you should at least have firsthand knowledge of it, that's what you would do for any other thing you would debate. |

Having said that, there are already a lot of websites that discredit the Bible as a whole: here's one - Bible Perspectives and Christian Contradictions
I think at the end of the day, it's really what you want. if you seek, you will find, if you choose to ridicule, you can do that all day long too - and have plenty of ammo for it. |

| Re: Hubble killed God? Well said, and I should offer apologies for being so snarky. I suppose I should just hang it up and say this. |

| Re: Hubble killed God? Fair enough, I wasn't looking for a "battle" at all, just wanted to share my views and experience. Have a Merry Christmas. BTW, I don't think you were being snarky at all. I thought it was a good exercise in reminding myself what I believe in, and why it matters enough for me to continually respond without being upset/flustered. It also means I have a lot more to learn about my walk with Christ, especially after finding the website I listed above. |
