| My '03 954 Rebuild What's good everyone??
I've been checkin out everyone and trying to give help where I can here and there and all the while have been (at molasses' pace in January) rebuilding my '03.
I want to share it with everyone.
I picked it up off a friend about a year ago. Totally crashed out. The guy had taken all the fairings off and had started getting into the stunt scene. Looped it pretty hard to where the tank came down on the gents business area and he never touched the bike again. My friend had claimed his roomate had the title or some crap so I got it for a song. I trusted the paperwork was a minor detail since I'd known the guy for a while and I had already ran the NCIC on it and it was on the up.
All this time I've been patiently waiting the paperwork to no avail. Finally dropped a call to my Title Guy and did a surety bond for the title.
Three weeks into it I got her titled, papered and plated so I started rebuilding her!
She's a low mileage (7122) bike. Previously Black with red trim but the only way I knew that was from the OEM undertail that had the paint code on it. It was totally chewed up. No wheels or tires when I got her. Unless you count the hulahoop of a bent to hell front wheel a real wheel. lol..
Started asking around here a while back for this and that and ended up getting a tail, fender, tank, and speedo from Eddie here on Fireblades. He did me a solid and figured at worst I had a good coupe of pieces here and there to get started. He also threw in a slew of Movistar/Telphonica decals. Then I realized I had only seen one Movistar bike ever and thought it would be cool to do it up that scheme.
Got a sweeet deal on a tank off ebay. When it got here realized it was a 929 tank. Bummer. Seller refunded my loot and said I could keep it. Bonus!!! Sold it on ebay and used the money to buy from dudes that knew what the heck they were selling from that point on.
Hit a few auctions on ebay. Got a pair of OEM lowers in decent shape that I could paint. Found a new upper that had never been installed. Scored a sweet hotbodies undertail with some neat led signals and a box of freebie extras from another good guy here on .org. Ordered a friggin iridium Hong Kong windscreen, never showed up, got a refund and ended up with a stock/clear one for now. Maybe it was a sign to stay away from the "cheapness??". Finding a headlight for these 954s is short of a miracle. Unless you get a brand new one. Which is about what I did. I ended up with a headlight off a theft recovery bike with 2200 miles on it that was being parted out locally. Still paid $200 for it but it's the nicest "not new" one I could find without spending $300. Scored a pair of wheels from another good fella here on .org. Had em powdercoated by a buddy for some paint work for his GSXR. Picked up a set of Michelin 2CT's for em. DOT track tires...gotta love em. Picked up green wheeltape...ain't installed but thinking about it.
Just shot some House of Color Cobalt Blue over a Cadillac Escalade Metallic Gold (with a shot of GM Pewter in it) for a lightened basecoat. I wanted to match the color of the tail and fender the best I could. Probably ended up with a color closer to blue than the ones I got from Eddie, but I think it's gonna look great. Debating on even painting the bottom part of the lowers green to keep with the Movistar theme. I think I like the blue better but will take your thoughts on it.
With the Bike, the title paperwork, and the parts, I might have $2000 in it. Maybe. Still got a ways to go, but I sat here loading pictures on the computer and really wanted to start posting up some of the work for those comtemplating rebuilding or just repainting.
I hope you all enjoy and appreciate any feedback.
Constructive or destructive!
Thanks guys,
Ivan

I can't wait to show you guys what she looks like in the sun! Man alive!
Thanks for all the compliments. I appreciate it and it makes it all the better.
Heck, there are only (3) 954's in the city that I've personally seen. I've heard about 2 others but never seen em. This is the only blue/Movistar one.
I can't believe it's the same bike either when I look at the pics.
Then I look at all the receipts that I have from the build and think....oh, yeah.....for sure it is.
lol,

| Re: My '03 954 Rebuild Awaiting parts sucks bigtime.
Ordered the FPR last Friday from Ayers. I've watched it everyday and signed up for damn text updates.
Part stayed in Mesquite Texas for TWO Days and barely got here to ABQ, NM tonight at 1825hrs.
Damn UPS guys are slackers. I can say that since I work for USPS and I KNOW FIRSTHAND how to really "slack."
Hopefully tomorrow night I'll be able to go shake her down after the install.
Thanks again for the great remarks guys!,
