Daytona Anyone??????

Anybody else going to this blessed event. I was planning to go on the 9th to take a stroll down Main St and look at the custom builders. Then, of course go on the 12th for the races.

My buds and I usually get there early in the morning to pick a good spot in the infield. They had some great vendors selling stuff of good prices last year. I hope to pick up a front pit bull stand this time around.

The event is only 2 weeks away.

I am going - but only from the 4th to the 9th so I'll miss the actual race.

Man, I'd love to go see the 200. There are two HD riders at work who will be trailering down for the event. When I asked them about seeing the race, they acted like I was speaking Spanish.

I'm not sure "race" is in their vocabulary.

It reminds me of when my buddy with the custom Duece told me that he went with the paint scheme that he got because it made the bike "look faster".

I still give him **** about that one.

the fact that they ride barcoloungers yet are trailering said rolling couches there speaks volumes about them as riders.

I'm trailering down with a bunch of my Hardley buddies - so I'll be listening to their endless **** all week. One of these guys has a Big Dawg that he swears will beat any "ricer". They're comical to listen to actually.

That's ok ... there's plenty to do in Daytona to make me forget about it.

I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale March 11-14, and that will be way too close to Daytona, during that time, for my taste.

They're not "riders". They're "bikers". I thought that was clear.

Amen. Most of the HD guys here at work mirror HD riders everywhere. Put about 1,500 miles a summer on their bikes, only on perfect Sundays, usually on poker runs while wearing the same black leather vest, white T-shirt and teacup helmet.

Edit: Thankfully, we've got an ever growing contingent of sportbike enthusiasts on the job as well.

I'll probably be there 11-13, with a brief run to WPB on one of those days. Maybe it's time to put a .org sticker on the windscreen

I'll be there everyday from the 4th - 13th. Of course, I'm only 30 minutes from Daytona. 20 minutes if I stay in the triple digits.

No worries. Been doing it for 5 years now. Besides, local po po doesn't care much about I-4 between Orlando and Daytona. The average speed there is about 80. They concentrate on International Speedway into Daytona Beach.

Just my luck though, this year I'll be jinxed and get nabbed.

Plenty to see at the Speedway. Past that, you've seen one, you've seen them all.

Might do some more demo riding this year again.

And of course hopefully they'll have Nate Adams doing backflips again.

I actually got to race at Daytona last year. It obviously wasnt the 200 but the CCS season ending race. The banking is freaking awesome at speed, like looking out the window of a 3 story building.

You're lucky. The average speed between Tampa and Orlando is usually between 5 and 40 mph.

...and you were! Most of that crowd thinks Daytona is all about the party. They have NO IDEA that there is a race, and that the race is the reason bike week started.

Also present is the high concentration of SQUID. And I mean really high.

Last year I witnessed some moron on a sport bike standing on the seat. He was doing real well until he lost his balance and had to jump off. The bike kept going until it hit a parked van. It totaled his brand new bike. Darwin award winner for sure.

Yeah, I'm sure there's a high squid content in addition to the HD crowd. One of the reasons I haven't bothered to go, nor do I bother with huge rallies anymore (Americade, Honda Hoot, etc.). I'd rather explore roads with a small group of riding buddies.

I'm thinking about taking the week before and week after off and go stay at my parents place in the Villages (just south of Ocala). If I do, I'd be up for the races and maybe a little sightseeing!

I have an uncle with a Valkyrie and another uncle with a Superglide and they both constantly tell me about how their big cruisers can outrun virtually any new sportbike.

To me it's kinda like all of the new full size truck commercials that show their trucks out running sports cars. How many people buy full size trucks for their 1/4 mile times? I don't get it. If you want a sport bike... buy a sport bike. Don't buy a big hog and then tell me it'll beat a bike purpose built for the track and twisties.

virtually . . . got to love that word. It can mean nothing or everything, but usually means "almost". My Vulcan can virtually beat my Elite (or vice versa), but my RC can definitely wax both of them . . .

Yeah, I don't understand that either. Hear those kind of things all the time. My buddy even gets a little peeved when I refer to his bike, '04 Duece, as a cruiser. He says "I don't really consider my bike a cruiser". Like cruiser is some kind of deragatory term. When pressed further he says "most Harleys are like Cadillacs, mine is more like a Corvet
