| Re: Just got back from "the ring" Well well. I'm back from a very nice trip to Nürburgring in germany. We decided to skip the alps this year, and come back later, when the guy I ride with has a bike with the same tank capacity, and long distance comfort..
I have a stock bike except the akrapovic bolt-on and yesterday i rode over 1000km's without a sore ass. The guy on the Hornet (CB600s) had a lot of pain tough...
The highest indicated speed i noticed on the autobahn was 286km/h. I have no idea what this translates into if you want real speed, but i didn't think it would get that high with the rather large 'tailpack' on my bike.
I recorded everything from 1liters of gas pr. 10 km's (on the track) to 0,5liters of gas pr. 10 km's when going slow through 'mosel valley'. When I cruised at about 160km/h (100mph) on the autobahn i got about 0,75 liters pr. 100 km's.
The Nürburgring/Nordschleife is the most amazing place I have ever visited! I have never ridden at a track before, but i've watched quite a few. Imagine 20 kilometers of asphalt in a truly stunning scenery with some of the finest bikes and cars in the world... The track has about 70 turns, and many of them are 'blind' corners. I have seen a few 'on-bike' bike videos of the track, but they do not justify the track in the real world! It goes up and down like a rollercoaster. And you have to keep an eye in your rearviewmirror for the guys who know the circuit.. Lot's of fast guys and girls in Porsches and BMW M3's......
I got passed by Panizzi's WRC car as well(For those of you who are into the World Rally Championship.. Peugeot 206 WRC) Man did that man know how to drive
I now agree that a steering damper is a must on the 929 as well as the 954.. The crests and bumps on the 'ring' made my 929 shake it's head more often than I liked..
If you ever get the chance to go there... DO IT!!!!!! I will go again for sure!
I will post some pics as well. Don't know how to fit all of them in one post, so i'll post quite few if it's OK with Conq and the rest of the administrators
Here is the first: Locking up the bikes for the night outside a 'Landhaus' outside Hamburg. |

| Re: Just got back from "the ring" Alfa 156 GTA, Porsche GT2?, RSVr going of the track. The track got closed for about half an hour after a CBR600 had gone down. No damage to the rider, but the bike was not 'roadworthy'.. |

| Re: Just got back from "the ring" The rear Bridgestone 012 on my bike after 4 or 5 laps of spirited (for a track rookie) riding... Held up quite well both on the autobahn and the track. The BT56 tires on my friends bike got more square after doing the same number of kilometers on the autobahn.. |

| Re: Just got back from "the ring" Me in Adenau. This village is allmost 'in' the track, and is where we stayed.. Very nice town. A bit 'sleepy', but when the track closed for the night a lot of the fine machinery went through the town on the way home. Lots of nice sights and sounds..... |

As for the vids.. I don't own a videocamera, and lots of the guys who had cameras mounted on their tanks was told to get rid of it before entering the track. Those who had 'small-cams' mounted on their fairings/bumpers/helmets were fine though..
Ok, thats it for now |

Denny : Very cool. Thanks for the pics. How does the track work? You take one lap then get in line again? Pay by the lap? How much?
| Yes that is right.. The long straight is closed when the track is open to the public, so after maybe between 1/2 to 3/4 of the straight, you get of the track, get in line and insert your ticket into a machine. When I was there it took only a minute maximum to get back on the track. The tires did not cool down to much.
It costs: 1 lap 14 Euro
6 laps 76 Euro
12 laps 143 Euro
A card valid for one year: 700 Euro
You can also reserve a 'ring taxi'. There is a BMW M5 which takes up to 3 passengers with a pro driver to 'guide' you around the track. The driver was female, and she was very fast!! I included a pic of the 'cab' in action |

BTW Ondablade and some chums did a big Ring trip in June. I think he was lapping in ~ 8m 30s. Very fast for a Ring novice. |

| Re: Just got back from "the ring" Wow...those are great pics! What's with all the writing on the track surface? Sure would be nice to have a track like that close to home so you could do a few laps whenever the urge hits!

| Re: Just got back from "the ring" Welcome to the club (of Ring addicts, that is). Glad you anjoyed it, and are back in one piece.
After my crash there last year and Jĝrund's (jse) fatal accident later in the summer, I have come to *the conclusion that it just is too dangerous.
8:30 for a novice is unbelievable fast. *My best time is about 7:58 BTG (Bridge to Gantry), which translates into around 8:21 for a full lap. *Helmut Dahnes track record is 7:49 (with the old start/finnish which made flying laps possible).
Some pictures from one of my laps: A lap at the Nordschleife |

| Re: Just got back from "the ring" Strangely enough, a chum phoned me the night before last, getting a gang together for a Ring trip in September. This has whetted my appetite again. I had to sit out Ondablades trip and I've been cross ever since. Hmmmmm............
Technical track? Oh yes indeedy. Blind corners, off camber, huge elevtion changes, banked sections, no run off at all, Armco three feet from your best line, trees, cars and buses, even th break down truck and track repair truck is out there, massive speed differentials between vehicles, nutters in tuned to the bollocks race Porsches and such like carving up everything in sight, not to mention it's sunshine at the start line but pissing down with rain half way round. You need to do about 50 laps before you really get o know your way around. Other tahn that it's just like any other track. I think they get about 1 fatality a fortnight but figures tricky to get hold of.
Scary place but it just has to be done. |
