| Cal-Sportbike Open House Sun 8/14: fundraiser for Deb/Chris Cal-Sportbike Open House Sun 8/14: Fundraiser for Deb/Chris
As y'all know, they're having an open house at Cal-Sportbike this Sunday 8/14 from 12 noon to about 3'ish (although the past couple events have gone until 5-6PM which is very cool!)
John Ryti will be grilling for us (thanks John!). Todd would like to make event this a bit of a fundraiser for Deb & Chris as well as a regular rider get-together.
they'll be raffling off cool stuff and a couple track day tickets, and Todd will take any items anyone wants to donate for the raffle. Todd's goal is to raise as much as we can to help them out.
Cal-Sportbike is located at: 1255 Apple Street Wrightwood, CA 92397 http://www.calsportbike.com (From Highway 2, turn south up the hill on Park Drive. At top of hill, shop is just ahead and to the right in 2 story wood building) ************************************************** ******* what happend to Deb & Chris as posted by Deb on another forum: Update on Track and Camper Fire Aftermath
Update on Our Situation after Beat teh Heat Track Day and our Camper fire on 8/3:
Pictures of the aftermath of our camper are at: http://www.sportbikeswest.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=25948#25948
Chris & I came in to my work to get online and see the pictures. Thank you Speed for posting the pictures, and thank you to everyone for all their phone calls and support.
After Chris had an accident at the track and shattered his collar bone, we didn't realize how much worse the day was going to get. The camper caught on fire and I was able to get out with the dogs about 2 seconds before the interior went up in flames. About 20 seconds after we got out, the camper fully exploded. There was a ton of gas and propane, flares, etc. Chris was amazing, especially since he had a shattered collar bone. He grabbed a fire extinguisher and did what he could until it ran out, then he was able to grab the second extinguisher to keep the flames away while I got the dogs out.
We lost a great deal of personal property, including all our gear (leathers, 3 helmets, gloves, underarmor, boots, etc.), my cell phone, the lap top, all our identification (license, military ID, etc.), all our credit cards & check books, and cash, all bike keys and house keys, etc. The amount of items that we lost is extensive. While standing on the side of the road (Chris didn't even have shoes on), we were able to borrow a cell phone and I rememberred Speed's phone number (thank God), and he was there for us within about a half hour or so. He brought us home safely (he drove WAY out of his way for us, and put up with the two dogs in his truck) and helped us with the trailer and the bikes. Speed, I don't know how to thank you for everything. The fact that you bought me a pack of cigarettes and offered to buy us dinner, that you pulled the trailer home and dealt with all the dog hair, dog farts etc......How do we ever repay you for this?
Anyway, Chris is on medical leave for 3 weeks and he is on pain killers. He is in a sling, and seems to be in lots of pain but is doing really well. He may not make his next deployment (which I am fine with...) but we will have to wait and see how he heals. He has a doctor's appointment next week for XRays, at which time we may have to discuss surgery again.
We are on our way to getting our lives back in tact. We have dealt with the UHaul Trailer, and UHaul really, really worked with us and hooked us up with the rental fee and the damage fee. I am very grateful to them. We were not insured for the camper, so we are eating that. The personal property is covered with a deductible under our home insurance, so we can recoup some of the loss. The bikes will be dealt with once the adjuster comes out to look at them.
As for the cause of the fire, we are not sure and are not comfortable speculating due to possible future legal issues. I would appreciate it if we could leave it at that for now.
The man that flagged us down when the camper caught fire saved our lives. I wish I knew who this guy was, as I would really like to thank him. We are incredibly fortunate and are feeling very lucky, not only for our lives, but for some amazing friends who have gone above and beyond for us. Speed, thank you. There are no words for what you have done for us. Henry, thank you for all your support and for everything you have done for us. Larry, thank you for helping us get the bikes loaded after the accident on the track. Thank you to all of those that have called us to check up on us and see if we need anything.
Since we don't have a computer anymore, I will be online when I am at work and I have a few moments. Please feel free to call the home phone, as I can't get to my PM's. The cell phone should be replaced early next week.
Thank you so much to everyone, and to God for keeping us safe. We are incredibly lucky, and know that He was watching out for us.
Chris & Debbie

I plan on attending and hope that you all can too, show some some support for a good cause!
