Re: Deal's Gap

Hello All. I'm new to the forums... I've been lurking.

On Friday around 2pm myself and another rider left from Toronto, ON for Deal's Gap located in Tapoco, NC. On Saturday morning around 8am we pulled in to the motorcycle resort. (1400 kilometers or 870 miles) We checked into the motel, slept for 4 hours, then hit the roads.

Roads.... lol... I mean roads. Awsome roads! Sweeper after sweeper, twist after twist.... Then you have the Gap itself.... 318 turns in 11 miles. Left knee drag, right knee drag... And if you make a mistake.... its a wall, tree or cliff for you!

It is impossible to explain, you must experience it!!

Now you still have to watch out for the local law enforcement... the troopers are all around. On Sunday I went down the hill and passed a trooper pulling people over... on the way up I buzzed by in a right knee dragger... I could hear the cheers.

Anyways... I made it home safe and sound. My best time for the entire Gap was around 13.5 minutes... I hear 11 minutes is tops.

Re: Deal's Gap

Everyone should experience Deal's Gap at least once. There are a lot of other roads in the area that are lower-profile but just as much fun too.

Re: Deal's Gap

Welcome to the .org!

Great roads up there. *

I don't know how closely you were timing yourself but please be careful. Sometimes a tick of the clock can make you do stupid things (like bad passes). I have been there and timed myself even going so far as mounting a stopwatch on my bike. I have since decided (several years ago) that timing one's self is better suited for the racetrack.

<Kelvin gets down off soapbox>

Sounds like you had a great time up there and I hope you make it down again. I usually make several trips a year to the Gap, maybe we can meet there sometime.

Re: Deal's Gap

We were up there this weekend as well. *Much thanks to firebladetoronto for showing me the fast lines through the mountains.

The weather was great, with the exception of the rain shower Saturday afternoon. *We didn't see the Blount County sheriff until Sunday. *They made one or two passes up the mountain then set up speed traps down by the lake. *Overall just a great weekend of riding.
