| Re: Gap on Sept 13th Weekend Hey all! *I'll be heading down to the Deal's Gap area for the first time on Sept 12-14. *Riding on the 13th only and traveling the other two days. *I want to ride the Dragon but I've heard the Blue Ridge Parkay is a bit more relaxed and beautiful. *Do you think I'll be able to ride it all in one day?? *Should I stick to the Dragon?? *I don't expect to go nuts on these roads, but I'd love to see it all. *One day just doesn't seem like enough time but it'll have to do. *I'll be riding with two other people so it should be fun.
Any tips for a first time visitor?? Crowds?? Cops?? Gas stations??? Hotels??
It would be cool to bump into a fellow fireblade.org member while down there.
I'm all ears!! |

| I'll be there from Friday night to Sunday evening along with my closest friends.
You can comfortably hit both a couple of times in the course of a day, and while the Dragon is definitely worth experiencing, there are simply too many other great roads in that area to ignore.
Tips... take it easy, and enjoy the ride, that's about it. One thing to be careful on the BRP is the deceptive speed that you can develop going through it; going 90 is not only easy, it can get you in trouble if you come up on a corner meant for half that, or some fallen rocks in your lane around a blind curve. There are several places to stay in Robbinsville, as well as rooms at Gap/Fontana itself. Check out http://tailofthedragon.com/accomodat...binsville.html for more lodging info. I've stayed, and intend to stay again at the Phillips Motel.
My group will likely consist of a blue WRX, a black Del Sol, and a bike or two, one of which may be my 954. |

| Re: Gap on Sept 13th Weekend Thanks 2OHOH, maybe I'll see ya out there. *I'll be on the 02 blade with Canadian plates....Um, I'm assuming you own the WRX (old avatar). *You don't tow your bike with that do you??
I'm a bit hesitant to tow a trailer for too long with my car, especially though the mountains.

| Yep, there's a good chance that we'll see each other.
Yeah, it's mine... but although I have a tow bar for it, I've never towed with it, and I'm not sure I'll want to this time. Maybe I'll get hold of a truck and a trailer, maybe ride up, I don't know yet.
So do you have a '20psi GTi'? An 86 or so euro-spec GTi was my very first car |

| Re: Gap on Sept 13th Weekend I had a 2000 VW GTI with a 1.8T engine. *It was actually pushing about 17psi. It was fun while I had it. I did all the necessary upgrades. *But, with all the flack from co-workers, I had to buy a (somewhat) Ford product. *I picked up an '03 Volvo S60 T5. I don't think I'll chip this one right away. I still may end up towing my bike with it some day.
Any idea how to change my inaccurate Org name??

| Re: Gap on Sept 13th Weekend I'm either staying in Robbinsville or in Bryston. Since I'm coming from the North (I-75) and pulling 3 bikes behind an F-150, do you think that we're better off avoiding the twisties on the way down?? We'll be driving in the evening on Friday and we're not too familiar with the roads so I thought we should maybe avoid the gap at night. I'll be booking today, is Robbinsville much closer to the good roads??
I was thinking of taking 75 South to 40 South/East to 74 West. Is that the quickest way into the accomodations areas?
It'll be cool if our paths cross. Extended forecast shows good conditions so far. I'm looking forward to this weekend. There's nothing close to nice roads around my area. |
