First Group Ride

I just got back from my first group ride, and it was soo much fun. It was only two other guys, but it was really fun. We rode out Highway 299 from Shasta County to Trinity County (Nor-cal) towards the coast through lots of twisties. Right now there are a ton of fires burning out so there was quite a bit of smoke at our destination. But dang that was fun!!

I was on a 929, which will be mine this week, a 1992 GSXR 750, and a Duc 918 or something. It was so much fun, the turns are almost all banked and back to back. One of the most fun rides ever! If any of you are in northern Cali you gotta hit 299!

Ok, I'm going to calm down now...

Re: First Group Ride

Thanks.

I read an article talking about "The Pace" and that's the kind of riding I like. Basically keep it in the legal limits, don't cross lines in turns, and enjoy!

That's cool you found some like minds to ride with. The best thing in group is to continue riding with those same guys to learn their patterns and they learn yours.

Great roads up there. I've been meaning to try them out (on bike), but I'm going to wait for a 2-up friendly bike so I can take momma up, she's been through Nor-Cal, but never 'in' if you know what I mean...

Re: First Group Ride

California motorcycle riders make me sick. To hell all of you I say.

I went to Laguna for the races and was shocked to see the kind of roads that are afforded you. All of the twisties that I rode on made me jealous. And the scenery was superb. I only traveled on a couple of roads while there. I can only imagine what the rest of the place has to offer.

My friend and I got to talking about what is available here in Florida and came up with nothing. The best thing would be exit and entrance ramps of highways that have any twists in them.

I can see why people flock to CA. It was a mighty beautiful place.

Not all of it......ask Scout. He's from the pit of hell like me.

I can give you reasons why NOT to flock to California:

1. Too expensive. Now ALL of Ca. is expensive. A few years ago, there were still some cities / towns that were affordable. Not now. When I moved from Central Ca to So Cal - the price of my house was DOUBLE.

2. Too many people.

3. Too many people.

4. Too many people.

There....hope that helps!

Every time I picked up a heavy board at work today, my quads reminded me of all those turns. Is it Sunday yet?!?

I plan on continuing with these guys. Up here we have a big squid scene, so I was really stoked to find some mature riders who have the same riding goals as me, i.e. have fun and get home in one piece!

The roads are great, and it's still not really crowded, especially compared to where you are! It seems like every other person around here rides.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be around here for too much longer. I'm seeking a career with CHP and they'll probably move me down south. At least it will be Cali!

They're around, you just have to sniff 'em out.

Good luck, it's generally a good agency. I've worked with quite a few, nothing bad to say.
