| Grazing the Gap Despite my better judgement I had to go back I also figured out the true meaning of "the gap" it is not Deals Gap it is the gap between what people there can do and what they think they can do
Interlude to White Zombie Electric Head Pt 2 (The Ecstacy)
Well I headed out and hooked up over Monteagle Mountain then super slabbed to Chattanooga the up 75 to exit 20. On the way into Chattanooga I passed a Brainerd Raceway Semi. Headed up to Tellico Plains making better time than I figured. Up into the Cherohala enjoying the pace and just easing along. Well this is where the day turned sour. Rounded a turn and there is a traffic jam. Seems someone crashed a Goldwing (or full dress Harley) Rumor was they had just passed a car in the turn (there was two of them) and then ran off the next turn. To make matters worse IF that was true they were both pulling trailers. End result a helo ride for the rider
Well I head on into Robbinsville and was going to head up to Deal's via the dam as I have never been up that way. Nice road but got stuck behind slow cars for most of the fun parts. Head into the store and there is a crowd.
Take off behind a truck but figure he will scoot over and let me by so no worries. Well the first turn he high lows it from about a half lane out We get to the first opportunity to pull over and he doesn't so I do as I did not want to be near him. A white mini car with the big pipe comes by and a few bikes..... well I am off and catch up to some Harleys pretty soon (amazing how many people were dragging hard parts and throwing sparks) they were cool and tucked over and waved me through
I catch the truck and he lets me by this time. Next I catch the white car and he is putting along which suprised me as he came by a bit spunky when I was pulled over (more on that later). Next I pass more Harleys then catch a couple of guys on sport bikes. I follow them to the overlook near the end. Well I chat with them some and get the story on the white car. Seems when the truck pulled over to let these guys by the car zoomed by also and started running hard. Well he made it a bit before tossing it sideways across both lanes
Got a few picts and the fleece intact

| Re: Grazing the Gap hoping to make the pilgrimage up there soon, but probably won't happen till spring at this point.
I am not so caught up in the Dragon hype, sounds like it is to crazy with people for my taste. Are there any roads you would recomend? Doesn't have to be that particular area. |

| Re: Grazing the Gap Great write up and pics. The Dragon is a must do. I did my 1st visit this pass August. I would recommend going during the week days. Very little traffic. I arrive on a Tuesday and headed out on Friday. I had a great time. No real traffic or dumbass people on the roads. I recommend Two Wheel Inn...great place in Robbinsville. The Tail of the Dragon is only 1 of many different roads out there. The entire area is littered with great roads. Venture out and be ready for jacking up the Miles.
Check out some pics here
Also, here for 'other roads'. |

The Gap is cool, but not the reason I go down there (been a while ) the rest of the area is fabulous, with great roads and great scenery ... as the Sheep's pictures show.
The helo really squeezed in there didn't he? |

Also, here for 'other roads'. | How many buildings do they have up now? When I was there last year they only had ~5 rooms or so. |

| They have three buildings up, but only two of which are ready for guest. I had the room closest to their office and the entire row was booked. Up toward the Street, they have 2 other buildings. One of them was open with just structral walls up and across from that was partly occupied.
Looks like it's turning out to be a very cool place to stay and linda and barry are very nice folks. |

| Re: Grazing the Gap Hwy28 is a great alternate at the GAP, Give it a try. It reminds me most of Ortega Hwy (hwy74) back in California. Also, dont miss the Cherhola Skyway (or whatever it is called). Don't mind the guard rails. They'll keep you from from leaping a couple hundred feet down. |
