Back protector under suit????

Since I had so much fun at Grattan I am positive I will be doing more track days and track riding. My Teknic suit fits great in the legs and waist but is real tight in the shoulders and when zipped up all the way is tight on my neck. I have an Alpinestar Tech?? back protector and there is no way in hell I can cram this under the suit but I would feel much more comfortable with a back protector. I probably need a bigger suit but I got enough other things to buy first and this suit was such a bargain and is still almost new?? What to do??

Did you remove the back pad that comes with the suit? You're not trying to double them up are you? Just asking.

Re: Back protector under suit????

If it's really too tight to fit a back protector, you could try to get the suit altered. My Bohn back protector does fit snugly, too, but I also have the built-in back pad on my Vansons. If any of you saw the back of my leathers at Grattan you'll know why I have double protection!

Re: Back protector under suit????

I have the same back protector (A Stars). It's way to hard to get around the bike the way I'm used to because its' so stiff. Old Goat showed me the new one he had just purchased, and it looked like it was designed a lot better than most....definately not as bulky. Sorry I forgot the name, but you can shoot him a PM for the info.

Re: Back protector under suit????

All I know is if I hadn't been wearing my Alpinestars (or other quality backprotector) when I went down last month I'm 99.9% sure I wouldn't be sitting here typing at the moment. I always wear my back protector unless it's a jaunt to the corner store (and remember my town is about 4 miles long ).

There really isn't much of anything but a real thin pad that can't be getting in the way that much. I guess my only options are to have the suit altered to fit or get a new one. I'm going to have to look into getting it altered just so I can know how much it would cost. I really like the suit except for the shoulders.

Hmmm.

The good news is I always wear the back protector under my tank top on the way to the store. Now I just need some kevlar socks to wear with my flip-flops!

I've got the same A* protector. It's a bit bulky but I sure feel more protected when I'm wearing it! No serious rides without it, that's for sure.

Even that thin pad can make a pretty significant difference. Have you tried it on without that pad?

You could always try to stretch your suit a bit by wetting the inside of the upper portion of the suit, then put it on with the back protector on, and do your best Hulk imitation for a few minutes. Wear a cotton t-shirt, to help soak up the water so it will dry some while you have it on.

That method obviously didn't work for the baby picture. Why are you telling him false things?

How do you get the hump out? It's part of the suit. Do I have to unsew part of the suit and sew it back up after removing the hump? The back protector has a velcro flap for access so I'll try without that!

Thanks

Most shoe repair shops will do it for you...at least around here.

I'm with Chris on this. Even if there's a tailor who does alterations to leather in your town, you'd have to insist they glue and double stich the new sections - Bill makes alteratiions and repairs all the time. And, he is reasonably fast.

its been said most accidents happen within a few miles of home. so go to the store in the next town over and you should be fine.
