Hello all,
I'm a new member and want to say that I've totally enjoyed all the funny ass posts. On a serious note though, I'm looking to get some kind of security for my bike. I'm located in england and wouldn't mind getting a british security system but I hate paying british prices. I'm in the US military so I can get stuff shipped to me for a decent price. I want to know what everyone thinks. My bike has to sit outside because there aren't too many homes in England with garages. What are the best security systems for bikes? Is there specific features that I need to look for? What is a decent price? Hope to hear from everyone.

Get a skorpio with pager.

Bike theft is a much bigger deal in England. I'd figure something out quick. And I would never store a bike outside on a regular basis. Get a shed or find a rental garage if you value the bike.

Typically, to get anything like decent insurance rates in the UK you need a Thatcham-approved (UK insurance research unit) alarm and keep the bike in a garage. Without either it's much more expensive. The UK sourced alarms are probably significantly more expensive than the US sourced ones you will get recommended on .org, BUT they get the insurance break. As a US serviceman, you may have different insurance, so you act accordingly.

If you decide to go for expensive UK sourced units, ask again!

Oh, and we have Datatool registration here which puts a computer registered code on your machine in several places and reduces the thief's chance of selling your bike afterwards, and so reduces your chance of getting it stolen.

Replacing stolen bikes is the majority cost of bike insurance in the UK

Is it parked on your poperty or on the street?
If it is on your lot put a gound anchor in the cement and get a big ass chain.
I have a kryptonite new your chain and new york disk lock. It would be better to have a large U-lock and lock it around the swingarm or frame. Defenetly get a full cover for it and an alarm is a good idea also. If you are going away and not going to ride it for an extended period of time take the wheels and plastic off it as well. Quick thing to do and theives will think that the bike is crap.

Ask the base commander of he can spare an extra claymore... But don't forget to disarm it, it would cause at least as much damage as a forgotten disk lock.

Has anyone ever heard of Abletronics? This is supposedly one of the better alarms in the UK. I currently park my bike in my back yard. The nice thing is that my driveway only allows one vehicle to be parked with only about 1 ft on each side when my car is in the driveway. So there's no way anyone can steal my bike when the car is parked. Does anyone know what a good price is for the scorpio 500 with Perimeter sensor and the whole lot? Is it worth it to get a system with GPS tracking?

I wish I could get some claymore. I'm in the air force so it's very unlikely to get the claymore. However, I might be able to get a jdam. I'm sure someone out there knows how to make it go off on a trip wire.
