KBC Racer -1 a short review

Well, it was time for a new helmet. My HJC AC-10 was getting a little long in the tooth. It is a great helmet and I'll keep it as a spare. The fit is good and it's DOT/Snell 2000. It was a little loud, though. So, I decided to replace it with a KBC Racer-1 Laguna (since I have a Mladin Gix, I might as well get the Mladin helmet). I went and tried it on at Cycle Gear and it fit very well. So, I went to helmet harbor and got it for $80 cheaper.

It fit snug. I thought it may be too small. But, after 4 hours of wearing it, it fits much better. I'm extremely pleased with the fit. It's snug but not too tight. Shield replacement is easy with no tools, however, my HJC was easier since the KBC has covers over the shield hardware and you have to take the covers off first. No biggie. The interior is outstanding. It is very plush. The entire liner is removal/washable. Optional cheek pad sizes are available also.
The venting is extremely good. It was 90+ degrees over the weekend and I never felt too hot. My only gripe is the wind noise. It's as loud as my HJC AC-10. Helmet Harbor actually said it was noisy but I was hoping it'd be a little quieter than my HJC. Nope. Oh well, I'm still extremely pleased with it. Not bad for $240. Also, it passes not only DOT and SNELL but also the European standards for helmet safety.

A great helmet at a great price.

My X11 is extremely loud so I now wear earplugs anytime I am either going on a long ride or anytime I am going on the HWY

I wear earplugs all the time. It's still louder than I'd hoped. Oh well, no biggie.

I just got a KBC Racer-1 and I think it is a good helemet aswell. I was just wondering if anyone uses a mirror visor? I though the one for the kbc racer let in a lot of glare, I though they were supposed to block out the most light like snowboard gogles, and what are those black tabs on the visor for?

The black tabs or posts are for tear-offs.

Re: KBC Racer -1 a short review

I've been considering getting one of these since my Arai Quantum is now a few years old.I tried on my wifes Shoei XR1000 but I didn't find it comfortable so now looking at other options.Been told the racer 1 is as good a helmet as the Arai in terms of quality and protection so why pay more money just to be a fashion victim.
Can anyone give me a link to a site where I can buy one online as they are not sold here in Italy yet.

Re: KBC Racer -1 a short review

it seems to me that with every review I hear people give about new top of the line helmets they all seem pretty loud. This KBC, I hear Shoeis are loud and I think my Suomy is pretty loud (compared to my HJC CS12, I think that was the model I have, just went looking for it and went nuts thinking my parents might have thrown it out but then realized my friend still has it from Fun Ford Weekend a few weeks ago at Epping)
but I guess they have more wind noise because they engage the wind better letting it flow over the whole surface of the helmet rather than having a low pressure zone around the some parts where wind would get in and make noise

My X11 is noisy as a biiiiiiiiatch also, but the helmet fits sooo nicely that I'm still in with it. Earplugs be da solution here also. Probably should wear them anyway, with any helmet.
