| Re: Best helmet deal I have found......... Did you ask what the mfg date on the sticker inside was? Helmets should be replaced 5 years after that date. |

| Re: Best helmet deal I have found......... Just got of the phone with Ron and although he didn't seem interested in opening one up, his best guess is that the helmets were manufactured in 2003 or 2004. That means the clock has been ticking for a possible couple of years while they sat in the warehouse somewhere . . . |

Believe the helmet mfgs also recommend replacing after 5 yrs from mfg. |

$600 list / 5 years of service = 120/year
If the helmet is an 03 it has 2 years left = $240
If the helmet is an 04 it has 3 years left = $360
CAUTION: Never trust a Blue Sheep on time calculations

CAUTION: Never trust a Blue Sheep on time calculations | . . . or consider that they may have been manufactured in January, 2003. At this point the helmet is nearly 3 years old already. |

So 1/2 off would NOT be a reasonable price nor a deal.

| Re: Best helmet deal I have found......... I had this disucssion over a bicycle helmet that was "onsale" last week. The guy thought I was nuts.
To answer the question above, by RNB, the reason they're considered no good" after 5 years has to do with the resins breaking down. Sitting in a wharehouse in the box is better than hanging off the bike in the direct sun in a parking lot, but it doesn't matter to race orgs.
The helmet is dead after 5 years. No discussion.
The AFM would probably cut the strap for you if they caught you with it. |
