New helmet FM Radikal

Picked this helmet up from 1888fastlap.com for a song... 60% off of 60% off. It is almost 3 years out from the manufacture date so I know that turns some folks off, but not me. So far seems like a nice helmet. I am glad I took their advice and got a size up from my Shoei... It matches my Spidi Proto-One suit nicely Seems well padded and well ventilated, I'll give it a spin tomorrow on the way to and from work.

It's good for 2 years.

Is it at least Snell rated?

Re: New helmet FM Radikal

Here is what the fastlap site says:
The Radikal boasts an excellent design with rider safety as the primary goal. The Radikal carries the highest European safety rating, ECE-22/05, and is DOT and now Snell approved as well. The FM Radikal is accepted for racing by every major racing organization worlwide.

http://www.1888fastlap.com/store/cus...me.php?cat=382

When/if you checkout, use discount code:
fm60

You may also need to set up a "prefferred customer" account. Very easy to do.

Nice. How long have they been around? I haven't seen or heard of them, but a damn good value it seems.

Re: New helmet FM Radikal

$180? All Snell ratings?

Report tomorrow on what you find.

They have a black "suede" helmet that'd match the SPR perfectly, and I could use a new helmet...the Arai expired.

Re: New helmet FM Radikal

Will do... I was tempted to get the silver color to match the sprint. But I didn't have a helmet to match my leathers.

The only place I have seen these helmets in the US is through fastlap. It feels more like an arai than a shoei if you know what I mean?

Re: New helmet FM Radikal

Fron their site, look like good advice.

Quote:
RULES FOR BEGINNING RACERS (experienced racers too)

These rules will absolutely make your racing experience much better. Read them, believe them, live by them.

1. Never, never lend your race bike to a friend, brother, cousin, etc. They will crash it, you will pay for it.

2. Trust the buddy helping you prepare your racebike with things that will not cause you to end up on your head. Brakes and clip-on pinch bolts do not fall into that category.

3. If there is even a .001% chance the temperature will drop below freezing overnight, and your race bike (with no antifreeze, of course) will be outside at the track or at the hotel, drain your radiator AND water pump. If you don't, the percentage chance of sub freezing temperatures will jump to 100%

4. Never do a 24 hour endurance race at Nelson Ledges in the rain.

5. Check your tire air pressure more often than you do.

6. Do not attempt to save money by using cheap chains. Have you ever been hard in the gas in a long sweeper with 8 guys right on your tail, the chain breaks and suddenly you have no more forward drive but the other 8 guys right behind you still do? Have you ever had a broken chain get under your tire in a 110mph turn?

7. Buy the good tires. How much did you save with the cheap tires if you fall down just one time because you bought the cheap tires? Cheap tires, or using good tires past a certain point, is simply a false economy. It will cost you more.

8. You are riding nearly out of control, thinking you are going so fast that no one could possibly pass you, and then somebody rolls around you on the outside of the turn while waving to you with one hand off the bar! This a subtle indicator that you need to find someone better than yourself to help set up your bike.
9. You can almost NEVER brake hard enough and quickly enough to avoid a crash that happens directly in front of you. Pick left or right, right now - it is your best chance to avoid another trip to the parts counter at your favorite shop.

10. Always find someone just a little faster than you to chase in your practice sessions. This is the best way I know to drop your lap times faster than your buddies are dropping their lap times
11. Never forget rule #1

Very sound advice...

The helmet did fine on the way to work... I'll take it on the bypass on the way home to see how it does with 80mph. The antifog worked better than my RF900.

Re: New helmet FM Radikal

I was under the impression that if it passes the ECE standard then it probably wouldn't pass the Snell standard. Something about hardness of the eps liner. (Suomy's site mentions they went with going after ECE rather than Snell and don't make a Snell version). Are there 2 versions of this helmet, ECE for Europe and Snell for US cause I've heard of other companies doing that.

Looks like a nice helmet. and at an awesome price too.

Re: New helmet FM Radikal

All I can tell you is what the website says. There is little info in inteligible english included with the helmet. I don't physically see any Snell certification on the helmet, but now that I think about it there may have been a piece of paper in with the manual that was either snell or may have just been the DOT slip... I'll double check when I get home. Does GR 1600 mean anything?

TO sure the Radical worths its money, had the same color scheme for 1 1/2y (gone after a low-side ), but I like my blue one right now, yet to order the smoke visor (which is cheap aswell)

It did great on an hours ride today... I like it. It is loud as are all well ventilated helmets I have tried. I don't plan on crash testing it.
