| Re: I smacked my head on pavement Likely a dumb question which will surely bring out all of the _best_ responses, BUT - I landed on my head the other day on the freeway. My helmet (Arai R4) has some paint damage. I'm guessing the helmet is no longer any good, but how can I tell (without hitting something and seeing if I live through it)? |

| Re: I smacked my head on pavement send it to Arai, and they can check it for free! I doubt they will OK it for use though, since It served its purpose.

| Re: I smacked my head on pavement I've heard some MSF instructors (according to the GF, I've never taken the course) say you can have it x-rayed... How hard di you hit? Normally, the padding/foam would be compressed where it absorbed the impact. If it is replace it. |

| Re: I smacked my head on pavement The only way to see internal damage is to have it X-rayed.
But I can pretty much guarantee that the internal structure is fractured. How do I know? You're still here and just fine.
One of my Arai Signets has almost no visible damage on it now (at the time it had an indent in it, but has since popped itself out) but hitting the ground with it produced yet another concussion for me.
It's just a trophy now. Buy a new one please. |

| I agree. From what I know (15 years worth of arriving on accident scenes counts for something I suppose), helmets are typically a one use item.
That said, I'd not hesitate to send the lid back to Arai for an opinion from them... |

| Re: I smacked my head on pavement I had a high speed crash with my AGV X-Vent and it was scratched up pretty good. I wanted to see how strong it was so I took a hammer to it and it took 10 very hard hits in the same spot just to crack the shell. Then I tried to hit it with the claw side and even that wouldn't go through. Anyway I was very impressed with the quality of it and I'm sure your Arai is the same. I just didn't want to take a chance wearing it again. Besides it would cost just as much to have it repainted as a new one would be. I would just do like others have said and send it in to Arai if you want to keep it for some reason. |

| Re: I smacked my head on pavement Thanks guys. I'm going to send it back to have them check it out, but am getting a new one anyway. I'm trying to find a place with decent prices on the new Arai Corsair's. I figure it saved my head once already, may as well stay with them.
I was likely only going 20 to 30 miles an hour. The part that sucks is I'm stuck driving a cage in the mean time...grrrrrr.... |

| Re: I smacked my head on pavement just trust that you need to buy another one, sad as it is. cut the straps off your old one and sh*t-can it.
i'm glad that you're here to write about it, buy that new skid lid and get back on the steed.
