| The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options? Ok, so i've been digging through everything i can think of and only found a few informative threads. What im looking for is something that could work as a "trip" hauler. Also interested in something that could suit as a daily commuter bag... but all the collapsable bags are either magnetic or require me to put on some BMW looking tank bra
What bags are the best? saddle/tank/second seat... who & what do you recommend?

You can get them for $90 online and they mount quickly.
2 drawbacks:
1) can't use with a high-mount exhaust
2) riding 2-up would prove to be challenging, unless you have an undertail and have removed the stalk directionals |

I've used my Eclipse expandable tank bag since I bought my bike and even used it during the 1/4 mile. I can carry 4 gallons of milk in it on the highway with no problems. I don't even use the lanyard. It never tried to escape from me. |

-Dana | I've got a set of Tourmaster Sport Saddle/Tail bags that I have to say have served me quite well. On a recent 6300 mile trip I packed an extra pair of jeans, a couple shorts, about 8 t-shirts, undies, socks, toiletries, 15" laptop, extra shield, thermal tops and bottoms, rain gear, video camera, still camera, couple pairs of gloves AND tools and assorted cords and more crap I can't remember... 3 clips and the bags are off the bike (or on) so I throw em up on a shoulder and carry them into a hotel room or whatever. The bags came with rain covers which I didn't use cuz I'm a dumbazz and lost em, but rather, lined the bags with trashbags to keep my stuff dry. They have thick neoprene pads on the backside so they don't scratch the bodywork, and the neoprene keeps em from sliding around. They worked very well indeed.
The only down side is there are some clips that lead you to believe will clip the tailbag to the saddle bags, but after hours of cursing and numerous unsuccessful attempts, I gave up. But the saddle bag straps fit through the neoprene pad on the tailbag, effectively holding it all together... so there ya go... I'm not much of a tankbag kinda guy. With the big tourmaster set on back, I can forget they're there. BTW, I have my bike cover on top in the pic, secured by a bungee net...

| Re: The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options? I bought a pair of Nelson Rigg saddlebags and a Sport tailbag that does attach quite nicely to the saddlebags and fits my 954. There is neoprene to prevent body damage, and I am pretty happy with the setup, although I haven't yet taken it for a long trip. My only compaint is that it does not attach very well on the aft quarter, but then again there is not much there in the tail end of the bike for it to attach to. It is not dissimilar to the Cortech system, but cheaper. Between all the bags this should hold a fair amount. I had a Cortech system for my old bike and was really happy with it. Indeed I sold it for about half what I had into it after several years of extensive use after I sold my old bike. |

I have tried a bunch and cant get any of them to stick. I considered gluing some metal strips on the underside but was worried that they might damage the tank. Quote:

| Re: The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options? I think the Nelson Rigg and Cortech systems are quite similar, although you would have the check the specifics for load capacity. The saddlebags are small, but they have to be to clear the pipe. Bikes with the pipe running up their six may be different. The tailbag is awesome, it can unzip a couple different ways to a fairly large size. I got the Nelson Rigg setup because it was about half the price of the Cortech at the time, and did roughly the same thing. I'll bet the Cortech is better, but not 2X better. That, and for me the setup is only used a few times a year, although I absolutely need it during those trips. And I think the Nelson Rigg tailbag is actually more capacious than the Cortech one. |

Here's a Ventura rack system I had on my 1000RR. Ive got 2 medium bags that zip together, 1 large expandable bag pictured, and a small bag for day trips. The actual rack can be removed and a grab handle put in it's place for a short ride. I've had a ventura rack on every bike, 1000RR, SP1, even the 640 Supermoto.
There's enough room for a 4 day trip in the 2 med or 1 large bag. Street clothes x3, shoes , maps, vid camera, digi camera, spare gloves, wets, overboots, toolkit, air compressor, towrope, flashlight, spare phone, UHF radio, drink bottle, litre of oil, plus more. Because of the 640's small tank I usually carry a 5 Litre can of fuel as well if on the KTM.
You cant beat the Ventura for versatility. It's the first mod I do whenever I get a new bike. |

| Re: The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options? I ride a pretty fair amount - 12,000 miles per year. Here are some ideas for you; mind you I've tried a lot of stuff since I started street riding in 1981. Through trial & error this is what I've wound up using on my 1K RR. A comfortable rider is a safer rider, thus can travel farther/faster. Here's my dozen: 1) I'd suggest this as the very first mod if you're gonna mile-munch. Sargent Cycle Products - Honda CBR 1000 RR 2) Next up is this precious jewel. There will be times when the freeway is a end to a means. This will save you much pain & agony. Throttlemeister web site 3) I use the 18-litre because it's a 2-pc affair that I can configure to my needs. It comes in either strap-style or magnetic. Tough as nails. BTW, I use their saddle bags, too. Truth be told, if I'm really trying to make time I don't use a tank bag - faster fill-ups w/o it. So, I wear a samll Camelbak style back pack - mines from Performance bicycle... mainly for quick access items (read: light weight stuff). Tour Master :: Accessories :: Luggage :: TB-18 Tank Bag Replacement Parts 2007 CamelBak M.U.L.E. Hydration Pack @ Performance Bicycle 4) I had a Puig prior to this Airblade db windscreen... and didn't really like the fact that it directed the air flow @ my head/shoulders. This one sends the air stream over hy head in a normal seated position. Airblade Double Bubble Windshield / Windscreen for CBR1000 RR (04 07) www.flyncycle.com 5) I had Arata prior to these Rizoma, and they were OK; the wonderful thing about these is that the toes peg can be adjusted in a 360-degree range, and the lever has a huge amount of adjustability, too. And naturally you can move the pegs up-down, forward-backwards, etc. The shift action wil become incredably precise/smooth. Rizoma Rearsets for CBR1000RR '04-'05 PJs Parts 6) I used to use a Cortech tail bag, but I've gone to the Moto Fizz (small). I like its features better. They both wear like nails. MotoFizz Camping Seat Bags (Small, Medium & Large) :: Seat & Rack Bags :: Seat Bags and Tail Bags :: Packing It In :: Aerostich/RiderWearHouse Motorcycle Jackets, Suits, Clothing, & Gear 7) I've used Widder electic vests for 15-yrs. I just switched to this liner instead... I also use the heated gloves, too. Once you try heated gear you'll kick yourself hard for not using them sooner. I use the dual Heat-troller (located on top of the HESD cover). Warm & Safe Heated Gear and Heat-Troller The Real Heated Gear Company! 8) A guy's gotta know where he's going, eh? GPS! Here's the mount I used - love it! British maker was a great lad to deal with. Garmin i5 - webBikeWorld Garmin GPS Mount - webBikeWorld 9) You gotta have power, so I have a socket on the right-side flat part of the fairing - near the tank. No room on left side because of new lights & horn. Powerlet :: Kits 10) HID head lights. No halogen light comes close, period. If you wanna ride safer & potentially faster @ night this is the ticket. I contacted Brad @ Super Bike Supply for mine. I love it! Can't say enough about it. And Brad & Mary are mega to deal with - the best in the business hands down. Online Store 11) You'll find youself around cages, and they don't play nice. So, you gotta let 'em know you're there. This bugger is equally as loud as any car horn! Stebel Magnum TM80 Replacement Horn: Adventurers Workshop Inc. 12)These bike have a tendancy to run warm - this takes care of it! Sounds like a Cessna taking off (well... not quite); it moves a lot of air. Muzzy Aluminum Fans I know this isn't just luggage for your bike, but it all makes a concerted effort to increase your riding pleasure/durability/endurance. Happy trails! I've done other performance mods, too. But I don't consider them a factor for touring/long distance travel. Cheers
