Gear Less Wonders in Idaho

I just moved to Idaho after a two year stint in the sand box. Previously, I was in California for many years.

The people up here in Idaho ride pretty much with no safety gear. I'm not the "Gear Nazi" however, I have crash tested a set of AGV leathers. So, I know gear works.

It's amazing to see so many helmetless heads riding around up here. I guess it's cool when your mullet is flapping in the breeze behind you as you ride into the trailer park.

Just a reminder to all of us....use your safety gear and be safe.

We got them here in MT also. Big groups of them. T-shirt ,shorts, hat back wards, etc. They seem to think that if they buy a 150 dollar pair of gloves they are invincible. If that isn't enough most of them have a girl wearing next to nothing on the back too.

Watch the local police force: they're in t-shirts, dress pants, crummy gloves and a 3/4 helmet.
Way to set an example.

They'll learn their lesson in the first hard crash. Sadly: it'll hurt and they'll likely stop riding for a long time (often permanently as they realize their mortality).

I don't find it unfortunate that they stop riding because they wreck. It takes one more person out of the equation that makes it hard on the rest of us who ride responsibly.

I have only been here since 15 August. I don't like the small town USA thing. Not here. I would like more variety in my shopping regarding where I can shop. If the base was 25 miles closer to Boise it would rock.

I would rather be some place else.

I'm from a town of 826 people in Idaho...and miss it.

Yeah, there is a definite shortage of gear there. At least in Idaho minors are required to wear helmets. Here in Iowa there is 0 helmet law. I watched a guy go down the road with his maybe 8 year old son on the back and neither were wearing helmets. Because no one there or here wears gear it is hard to find good gear. No one stocks anything which compounds the problem even more. I had to order my A-stars stuff with the threat of a 25% restocking fee if it didn't fit.

Zhart, don't worry before you know it that drive to Boise will be second nature. Then you won't understand why people refuse to drive 15 minutes to go anywhere once you leave that dustbowl.
