I have 20 years of riding exp and exp with helmets and riding gear and yes that does in fact matter. Saying I am old nd probably slow was also A pretty immature statement and also wrong. I do not ride like a fool punk true but I am also a skilled rider. I am not sure how age would constitute being slow. In 20 years will Nick Hayden be slow? Somehow I doubt it. Apparently you think youth is a prerequestite for skill. I am sure that is why most accidents are made by younger riders that make unskilled mistakes. I actually said no experienced riders I KNOW wear Icon helmets NOT that NO experienced riders do although In my exp most riders with more then a couple years exp spring for a top of the line lid. Shoei helmets one of the most popular lines there is fit me great so I am not sure where you are comming from in that respect. I Never said Icon helmets were no good because they did not fit me. I said their construction is not as high quality as Shoei and other top line helmets and sorry but that is a fact.
We are trying to help this guy to choose a lid by giving him the benifit of ACTUAL experience and knowledge of helmets not by being irrational and making un supported ignorant rants that make you sound like a 8 year old. Honestly you really just embarassed yourself. If you want to continue feel free I think we have covered this subject well enough so I will not be responding to any more childish comments. |

I really hope that is not the advice you are going to give people trying to pick gear. Although I do not think their helmets are great Icon does have a lot of nice gear as far as jackets etc. |

Although I do not think their helmets are great Icon does have a lot of nice gear as far as jackets etc. | I think if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to pay 600 bucks to a Grand for a helmet that gives you NO BETTER protection than my 300 buck Icon,, more power to you. Look at consumer reports the 200 buck HJC's crack with about the same pressure as the Show IE's and all the other over priced helmets. And dont get me wrong I was seriously thinking about buying a new Show E the other day they have a new Red White and blue(American Theme) one that I love. Maybe next year!!
Bottomline any full face helmet is a heck of alot better than these half helmets most Harley riders wear. Cant wait to see their jaw 500 yards behind them as they hit the pavement at 60mph. So again yes I think it does come down to personal pref. I have a 50 buck Camo Bieffe helmet (used for riding my ATV) that is better constructed than my 300 buck BELL Moto helmet that I baught about 15 years ago for Motocross, so thats what about an 800 dollar helmet today. LOL My Point Technology has made everything alot better than in our days,,no offense.
And eitherway when you hit that mack truck at 175 mph its not going to matter if your wearing a Show E or a HJC,or and ICON, eitherway your roadkill.
So in the words of Rick Johnson(and yes I am dating myself) it doesnt matter if you win or loose. Its all how good you look doing it. Peace! |

I did a little looking around and found some DOT test data on helmets Only one that I saw had an ICON which failed but HJC was listed several times and failed a good amount of the time while Shoei and Arai passed almost every time. I have to admit I think I confused HJC with KBC though. One of them is pretty cheap. |

Well that is pretty true. I do think that even beyond saftey the quality of construction counts for a lot and I have seen a lot of helmets that do not hold up. Of course like everything else some of that depends on how it is treated. |

My Icon did its job , but dont take my word for it,,many thousands of riders wear Icon helmets and for that matter all the same for the big buck ones and the cheap ones. So basically read the reviews and the consumer reports and buy what YOU want,,but I strongly recommend this,, IF your going to buy ONLINE,,go into a shop that sells Icon's and try one on,,even if its not the model or color you want just to make sure you get the right Size for your head. Course you probably already know this,,but just a friendly tip. |

Of course he just laughs at me, but I totally agree! |

Thats a nice link but honestly maybe you believe everything the Government throws at you ,,I dont,,, I like consumer reports personally , because to date they are not baught and sold like every other source out there and yes I will go on a limb and say our Government is baught and sold. But for that debate we should probably take this thread elsewhere. LOL Peace!!!
I honestly am not a huge fan of the Domain helmets,,no offense to those who have them and dont really like HJC,,but my wife wears one.
Like I said before they are all good pick one! Your heads not going to know the difference when you hit that mack truck. But as long as your WEARING one I think you have a better chance of survival than NOT wearing one!
Thanks again for the link I did find it interesting!

1st off graphics are cool n all but thats not the 1st thing i or anyone should be lookin at 1st....look at the saftey ratings and try that **** on...see how it fits YOUR head...everyones heads are shaped diffrent so diffrent helemets will fit people diffrently i love my icon helmet ive been down with it and its still good to go...i will also stand behind shoei ...its way more comfy than my icon and it actually breaths better too dispiite all the vents on the icon helmet....as for arai...maybe i got a bum helemet i dunno they seem to be pretty popular but heres a pic of a time i went down with a arai helmet that cracked in two...so i guess i just wouldnt put my stock in that brand because of that....as far as prices go everything now days is over priced from helmets to toilet paper so...**** buy what you want but ill stand behind shoei and icon products....and alpine as far as gear goes.
