Rain Gear

I'm pretty much a year round rider, but this year, I've gotten stuck in the rain more times than I care to count. I don't mind riding in the rain (actually, I really enjoy it), but it'd be nice to be relatively dry when I get to my destination.

So, do you have any positive/negative feedback on good raingear? I'm thinking of a one piece that fits over my boots/pants/jacket and fits snug around my neck. Warmth isn't really necessary, but couldn't hurt if it's included in a good package.

Yup, Aerostich is the way to go!! 95% waterproof (you may get some seepage around the zippers). I used to struggle into raingear that fit over my leathers. It was a pita to have to stop and mess with that stuff when it started raining. I just wear the 'stich for all my street riding. If it starts raining, I just keep going! No need to fuss with separate rain gear. Very well made. Good padding and protection.

Thanks for the feedback....I was hoping to avoid the Stitch due to cost and the feeling that I don't need an entire new set of armor....just something to keep my current armor dry. But you never know, I might end up going down that road.

I just don't want to get a one piece rain suit that shreads at 80mph. I'm also curious about if a two piece suit would provide enough rain protection....it would seem to be near impossible to keep rain out at any zipper interface.

The Stich is a great suit for commuting and sport touring.

But, as with any thing garment with a zipper, it will leak. I usually stay dry in a moderate rain for an hour or so, after that, moisture can wick in thru seams and zippers. Most of this leakage gravitates to your crotch area, making you look like a Depends poster child....

Light rains are no problem....you can stay reasonably dry for quite some time, your biggest point of entry becomes your collar and sleeves.

Try Frogg Toggs. They are Tyvek and seem to work well. You can get zipper or pullover jackets and bib or regular pants. The Zippered jacket does leak a bit in the zipper.

I bought a really cheap Spidi waterproof over jacket, just a really lightweight plastic thing, £20/$30US. It's meant to be worn over leathers, or whatever you usually wear when riding.

And I bought some even cheaper water proof over trousers, £10/$15US. Again these are designed to be worn over regular leathers, boots etc.

The jacket claims to be 100% waterproof, and it is. The trousers are too.

The jacket has an inner zip, and a wide velcro flap, it's long enough to cover at least 10 inches/25cm of the trousers. The cuffs are elasticated and velcro too. They fit snugly over gloves and water doesn't run up the sleeve.

Also, the jacket has a draw string around the base to stop it flapping in the wind. There is a large, soft collar with a velcro flap to keep the rain from running down the back of my neck.

And they both fold up to be very small, about the size of a sandwich. Easily fits under the seat of my 954 blade.

Very cheap, works well and I'm happy with them as I can wear my proper leathers under the waterproof over suit.
