Safety wire and pliers...

Where is a good place (cheap) to buy safety wires and pliers? And what is the best grade to get? I heard that aircraft grade and 0.25 is good for bikes? Any thoughts?

Harbor Freight is just about the cheapest. .28 stainless steel wire is what I believe was recommended to me.

Re: Safety wire and pliers...

Can someone tell me the difference between "safety wire" that is sold as such, and stainless steel wire available for $1.29 a package at the hardware store? It comes in different thicknesses, and it does not break easily. Is there something about actual "safety wire" that makes it better?

I actually tried using that stuff once, it breaks when you try to twist it. I think I ordered my wire and pliers from kneedraggers, but LP sells it too if you are in the privateer program.

The stainless is the way to go. The other stuff tends to break easily and will eventually get brittle. you dont want to worry about that stuff at 150mph

Don't ask me how I know

Re: Safety wire and pliers...

Mr. Mom was great! I loved the theme music from Jaws when the vacuum cleaner went nuts.

Edit: Oops, I mean, I got my safety wire pliars from Street N Comp.
