| AFM Round 1 I saw Wet Shrub there and he did awesome!
Brian, you should have done Formula IV, too. For me, I figured out more of the track during our first race and when I went out in Formula IV, my lap times dropped from 2:16 to 2:10. Some of the FZR 400's and two strokes were easy pickin's because of the power of the SV. I got a much better start and then passed at least ten bikes during the race. DAMN, it was fun!
Sign up for Formula IV at Sears!!!!! |

Randolph made a late move and got to second, looked like he was gaining on Mesa but he was too far ahead. Great race!! I was hopeing to see more from Earnest though. |

Sign up for Formula IV at Sears!!!!! | Good job eeeeek! I should have but I had no idea what sort of fiasco I would have to endure. I will definitely register for formula IV at Sears. I have 2 track days experience there so I hope to do better than at Buttonwillow. Glad to hear you improved your lap times significantly. I think both of us show that we have great room for improvement on that track. Otherwise our times wouldn't be dropping so drastically.

-Shrub | It's a tough track for me to figure out. 11 turns? More like 18 turns. I really should have gotten down there for the friday practice as I only got three sessions in on Saturday.
Sears will be cool. I have a couple of days in there, too. I'll probably by xamping at the track for Sears. |

I hear you. My practice day consisted of 2 lead-follow sessions and 1 open riding session in the middle so I couldn't even build on the 2 lead-follows. More like my open session was thrown to crap by the second lead-follow.
I think I'm just going to drive over each day from Sacto or maybe even stay with my parents in Napa. |

| Re: AFM Round 1 Well, you looked good out there. You were agressive enough after the first couple of laps and I'm sure your lap times dropped. Both Mike and I got down to 2:10's during the formula IV race, so I think we're all going to be stirring it up at Sears. We won't be racing for the win; but, we'll be putting on a good race! |

We won't be racing for the win; but, we'll be putting on a good race! | My fastest lap during the twins race was 2:11 on my last lap. When I finally got past this guy in front of me I relaxed a little and was able to push a little harder. I even let off a little because of that bike that was in the middle of the Esses on the last lap. I still wasn't super comfortable though. I had some good late braking going but I was overdoing it so that my corner speed was too slow. Most often I didn't even have my knee on the ground, or perhaps I was picking it up. Either way, my entry speeds were all messed up because I wasn't used to being on the gas that long in the straights. I should feel more comfy at Infineon. It's comforting to know that I will have some nice guys around me to dice it up with. Could be a good season long battle.

| Re: AFM Round 1 You know, my knee only touched down a couple of times, too, and not at all where I expected.
The long right hadn corner (6?) was messing with me at first. Then, Filipe suggested I short shift to 6th and just pin in and that worked pretty well. I still didn't quite pin it until I straighted up for 7; but, I carried a lot fo speed to 8 and was able to pass people there.
I'm looking forward to returning in July! |

I'm looking forward to returning in July! | Yes, turn 6 was messing with my head too. I wasn't used to looking as far ahead as was required for that turn. It's so fast that to feel comfortable you really have to look far off and I wasn't doing that. I was looking closer to make sure I wasn't going to run off the inside of the track. I was able to keep it in 6th though just as you suggested and roll on throughout the whole turn and then into 7. I don't recall passing anyone there but I think it was a better part of the track for me. I did carry a lot of speed to 8.
I think most of it is that when I am in race mode I actually pick my knee up a little more because having it down is more of a distraction at that point. Maybe just a little touch but then once I know where the ground is, I pick it up.

| Re: AFM Round 1 LOL! I think I call that the ol' death grip on the bike. I clamp down on th tank with my legs until I realize I'm doing it and then try to loosen up. I consciously have to remind myself to loosen up and relax a little.
I was a tight mess in Race 6. I felt like I had just gone a few rounds in a boxing match. I was beat up tired and glad to see the checkered flag. In race 9, I relaxed, ran much faster and could have gone a few more laps. |

| Re: AFM Round 1 Official AFM results are in. I think it's pretty amazing that an SV650 has the 2 fastest lap times of the day in 2 different races. There must be some mistake. He beat the fastest Formula Pacific time by 9 SECONDS!!! I don't believe it. He still one both of his races handily it looks like but still, I don't understand it at all. He should be racing FP with his SV650 with times like that. He'd beat them all easily and turn pro inside a year!

I wonder how the timer had errors like that. | I believe the unofficial results posted at the track are taken directly from the db com system. During the races two scorers manually log every rider as he/she crosses the start/finish line. Official results aren't determined until the scorers have had time to compare their notes to each other and the db com system, plus they have to wait for any protests to be filed. My guess is that somebodys transmitter wasn't working or if your race was ended early by a red flag then they went back to the previous lap for results. Erronious (sp) timing is not too uncommon. |

| Re: AFM Round 1 Did you see this? I took it from BARF. Guy has the whole 600 Superbike race on-bike video. He clipped it into 7 pieces for his web site. Cool stuff. The dude is fast too! http://www.deadbeef.org/racing/Buttonwillow0304.htm
