| Re: AFM round 2 I'm signed up for Formula 4 and 650 twins. Weather looks iffy though. Sears is pretty finicky when it comes to rain before and during events. It doesn't run off and the whole drag strip thing (used to) jack things up too. If it doesn't look good then I will just race YSR's. This is the one weekend that conflicts with AFM. Odds are good that it will be dryer here than in Sonoma.

I think you're going ot love Formula IV. With the different mix of bikes, you really have to do a lot of thinking and take much different lines to get around some of them. I loved F4 at BW. |

| Re: AFM round 2 Read on BARF that we will be running the old turn #1 without the chicane! Faster and wider up the hill. Also running the AFM turn 9 without the AMA chicane and the AFM turn 11 which I believe just makes it a shorter turn around?

| AFM round 2 Rained out! After a great day of practice on Saturday and a personal best lap time of 1:50.492 I was stoked for first race of the day! I was scheduled to start in on the fourth row # 15 grid position of the "Open Production" class. I was really getting high hopes of an improved finish and scoring some more points.
Morning practice went well riding low 1:52's on new unscuffed cold tires and the race was scheduled to begin immediately after the riders meeting, I was getting the typical case of nervousness preceding a race for a new novice with only one race under my belt when all of the sudden rain drops started falling from the sky while we were completing the riders meeting.
I hung out at the track for couple more hours waiting for the rain to let up, while waiting in my pit I sat and contemplated how I may actually score more points and positions because everyone started leaving. I started feeling like a dumb turkey staring up into the rain with not enough sense to admit that I was really in denial ...... this race was not going to happen! After several hours of waiting the race was called and the rest is history!
Oh well, I guess I gotta wait until the next sceduled AFM round three race at Infineon. |

| Re: AFM round 2 Too bad about today. What a shame. So many racers travelled far and wide to make it to Infineon only to have them sit around all morning after practice and have it cancelled.
I was up at the announcer's booth most of the day just waiting (great view of the track too!).
Walked down for some food at my group's canopy, then left shortly after the announcement.
There's always round 3! |

Perhaps it was because they stuck me in group 1 again....damn. It's almost dangerous flying around all those guys on ex250's and the like. I got a 1:57 in my second practice session on Saturday but then after that it was all downhill. Not really sure what happened but I wasn't feeling aggressive at all. I think maybe it's a good thing we didn't get to race...for me at least. I left at like 12:30. Did the reverse math to find out that race 1 would have to start at noon and all the races go without incident to get all of them in before 5:00. That wasn't going to happen so I bailed.

| Re: AFM round 2 Being in group 3 really made a difference. I was passing a lot of people and getting passed by others and it seemed the average time for this group was right around 1:55 where Group 1 had an average around 2:20. To get a good lap in, you'd have to be first on the track. I looked through Leigh's sheets and the fastest time in group 1 was a 1:51 and I heard Mike say he managed something around there.
The traffic in my group kept most of my lap times around 1:54 and when I'd get by a cluste, I'd be able to drop a couple of seconds. I really wish they had gotten times for my group on Sunday practice becuase I hit the throttle harder for 2-4 and 7-10.
Oh, well, extra practice for May! |

| Re: AFM round 2 Yeah, I think it might have made sort of a difference but all in all I think I just didn't have the racing aggressiveness this weekend for some reason. I was riding it like a relaxed track day. Not sure. Oh well, next time I hope to.

Reckless929 is Aaron Smith #911.
(thanks Aaron for your permission to quote).
I'm not sure if it would be a good thing or a bad thing to allow you folks to ride in the rain (given the preparation of rain tires).
But, we'll see you guys in May! |
