Re: 3 Hour Endurance race

Hey, we will take pit help as well! You know, someone to hold the bike up while I fall off of it after my session and FBT fills it up with gas before his stint!

I would be interested in helping. I live about 40 mins from there. Tell me what to do and what the obligation is. I'll tell you if I can make it. I can't ride. No race license or leathers.

Re: 3 Hour Endurance race

I was being serious in my last post. Basically, if someone wants to come watch and basically help with the bike while we switch riders then that would be sweet. I plan on riding until I can't ride any longer (maybe 30 minutes, maybe much longer). Regardless, when I come in I am sure I will be pretty tired. FBT and I can do it ourselves, but it would be great if we had another person or 2 to help fill up the bike with gas and to help hold it while the riders switch places. Like I said, we can do it ourselves so there is no big obligation (pit stops will just take a little longer) but if someone wants to come out and be part of the action then we won't refuse any offers of help.

Edit: BTW, I will add that we aren't taking this very seriously. Some people have quick dump fuel cans. We don't. I am not looking to do a 15 second pit stop or anything. I would prefer that we not drop the bike in the pits though.

Dang it guys. If there was a little more notice I would have worked things out to ride up and help out. If you do another event (that you need assistance with) please be sure to post the request ASAP, or PM me.

Good luck with the race, but foremost - HAVE FUN!

Hey, there are no stupid questions!

Edit: Oh yeah, look for the metallic gray 929 with yellow number plates and yellow tank with #27 on it (guess I should tell you how to find us). I will try to get to the place around 2pm or so to do any last minute items to the bike.

BTW, FBT, I did some fiberglass repair last night (first time). It isn't pretty on the inside, but it definitely took care of the sections that were a little too flexy from being rashed. I should pick up the gasket tonight and get the cover installed and oil put back into the motor. I plan on taking it for a spin around the neighborhood tomorrow to get the steering straightened out and all. I hope to have everything complete on Saturday so we can just unload and go!

I guess we have only one requirement, and I am sure I speak for Larry. The requirement is that we have a commitment that you WILL be there. We would be counting on you. Other that, we would love to have you join.

No problem. You want me there at the same time you guys get there? PM me a cell number so I can call you if I have car problems or can't find you. Short of some freak situation, I will be there.

Don't crash the guys bike you are riding?

Couldn't resist.

H-D, I don't think you need to get there when we do. The race isn't scheduled to start until 5pm I think. I would just show up whenever you want, but I would try to be there before the race begins so we can get introduced and all.

FYI, just so you can find where I am parked, I drive a light green '98 Ford Explorer XLT with an all white 6x12 enclosed trailer. The trailer has extra height (just like me) so it should be hard to miss.

Hey lfg, I'm not busy this Sat. I could even ride up with you if you have room and help load/unload, etc. Let me know. BTW, I took the Penguin racing school back in 99, don't know if that would let me ride or not(I'm still pretty slow too, but you did say you weren't serious about this one&#33 I've never been to Nelson, but would like to check it out. Later!
Edit: I'll definately have some questions!

Sorry about the late response slowpoke (guess I am the slowpoke on this one). The vehicle is full with the family already. My wife's parents live in Akron so her and the 3 kids are going up there with me (her parents volunteered to watch the kids while the wife goes to the race with me). It is a hike to cruise up there for a race from Columbus just to spectate, but if you want to do it you are more than welcome. If the family wasn't coming with me then you would certainly have a spot in the vehicle.

BTW, for anyone else who might be following the thread, the race bike is repaired. I had to replace the left footpeg, the left frame slider, the alternator cover and gasket, and do a little fiberglass repair, but all is in order. I took a quick trip through the neighborhood today at about 35MPH to make sure all was well. Seems to be so far. We will see how things are when it hits triple digit speeds in practice tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Well, I think you guys did pretty good yesterday. There were some seriously fast guys and you didn't get emberassed. Plus the bike and riders are all in one piece. I call that a success!

Anyway, thank for letting me hang out w/ you. I learned quite a bit. Plus I got those boots!

Here is a pic that I snapped shortly after the start.

Re: 3 Hour Endurance race

I want to thank Heavy-Dee and slowpoke for helping us out in the pits. You guys made it a whole lot easier when it came time to switch riders and we couldn't have done nearly as well without you. I also want to thank Firebladetoronto for driving up from Knoxville to race with me. If he hadn't come up then I wouldn't have even entered the race (I don't have the stamina to do 3 hours all by myself).

It was an excellent time. We got 3rd in our class (woohoo, trophy&#33 and 6th overall (out of 22 teams). Plus I got to drop my times down into the 1:14's, which is doing pretty well for a novice (the fastest experts there were doing 1:10s). We were only out of first place by 10 laps (we did 103, the winners did 113) which is pretty good considering those guys had quick fill dump tanks for refueling and were all expert ranked riders. We had the standard bike fuel can with the long rubber hose to fill our bike.

The bike held together and we didn't have too many scares. I had an offroad excursion coming out of turn 9 when the rear spun up and pushed me wide through the turn. Rather than risk potentially lowsiding on loose debris at the very edge of the track I decided to take my chances running through the grass. I eventually got it steered back towards and onto the track and kept on trucking.

Thanks again to everyone for their help. Depending on how cashflow goes I may be back up there in early August for another endurance race.

Re: 3 Hour Endurance race

Yes, thanks Heavy-Dee and Slowpoke...it was great to meet you guys and it was even better to have your valuable help during the race...

The race was awesome...lots and lots of fun. *Took a little bit to get used to Larry's bike. *And who ever says the there is little difference between a 929 and 954 is full of @#$@!!! *Very different rides...but both excellent!!! *It was a bit hairy on my first lap with the bike. *It was someone else's bike, a 929, had reverse shifting (GP shifting), very high rear sets, jacked up rear suspension (Ohlins), Ohlins steering dampner and very snappy sprocket combo....on a bumpy track that I never rode before.....but after the first couple of laps...I was getting the groove and loving it...I did not want to stop...my first stop was because of fuel...BIG FUN!!!

I recommend it to anyone...but make sure you bring plenty of liquids.

THANKS LARRY for inviting me to race with you and trusting me to fly around the track on your toy. *Say hi to your wife, she rocks...Ellen...she is a great lady!!!

And if you need another rider in August...let me know, I would love to be a part of it again!!!!

Here are a couple of pics that I have...not the greatest...but it is all I have for now...
