The plan is a kinder, gentler track weapon (I'm getting older you know . . .). I also needed something to keep Mr. Vulcan company and he doesn't like inline fours.

Well unless something is VERY wrong, I do believe it's a four stroke (although I have been incorrect about technical stuff like this before). It's an 00 RC51

Congrads abtech. As I mentioned in the other thread, I hope you let us know how setting-up your new mount goes. The fellow I mentioned in the other thread is a good, experienced, knowledgeable instructor, but it's just his opinion. You, stating the obvious, have mucho experience as well and I look forward to reading how you progress with your bike. What you find as the good, the bad, and the inbetween.

On your 2 X 2-stroke!

Good luck abtech.

Re: abtec new bike?

OK enough about the ass pirates . . . I need to ask some of the RC owners a question or two. Mine has the soft limiter mod, a PC 11, pipes, flapper yanked, pair valves removed and sealed, custom map ad nauseum. I am going to the track this Sunday and would like to know where the hell you shift this thing. After a long discussion with Dan which included details from my 929 and Grattan, I am now running 15/44 gearing. Based on what the stock gearing was, this thing should be able to tow cars out of the snow or find use as a garden tractor. The dyno says the bike is still making power at 10.5 or so (although the torque curve has come and gone), but the 'real limiter' hit seems to come up very quickly after that point. Any information would be very helpful.

Re: abtec new bike?

15/44 gearing? * Most guys including track guys run 15/41 gearing. Makes the bike top out at around 140 corrected MPH. How fast could you hit the straight on your 929? When hard on the gas, I shift right at or slightly below 10k and I have all the same mods as you.

Re: abtec new bike?

I asked Dan about the 15/44 (what he recommended) and he spent quite a bit of time on the phone going over it. I ran 15/44 on the 929 and was just into the limiter in 6th if I got the 'drive from hell' on the front straight at Grattan. After speaking to several RC51 owners, they all seem to run the bike as a 5 speed on the track and run 15/41. I am a front tire rider and have always used the entire gearbox to take advantage of the drive in the slower, more technical part of the track.

Is that 140 (with 15/41) in 6th? I used to regularly trap 140+ on the 929 at Grattan (even did a 168 for yucks once when I knew I wasn't going to have to make turn 1 as we were using the radar from the local sheriff's dept.) For a fast lap (w/o f$ckups) I would need to be able to pull 145 or so.
