| Re: AFM Round 4 Since I didn't practice Saturday my lap times were drastically improving through the races. Too bad I didn't have it going on in the beginning. I was pretty slow in my first race (650 Twins) but then in F-4 I picked it up a bit and dropped 5 seconds off my 650 twins lap times. It helped to have a bunch of RS250's and FZR400's to catch also. That was fun.
eeeeek...sorry to hear about your crash man. That sucks. You were riding awesome before that too.
Lot's of crashes all weekend. I think once again the heat makes people think they can do anything they want and that the tires will just stick. Gotta be careful...

Reckless | The weekend started good for me but ended on a bittersweet note!
Saturday practice went well, I improved from 2:06's down to fast lap of 2:02.
Averages times were 2:04-2:05's
Racday I finished 10th in Formula 40 and finished last in the open Superbike race after running off track at 100mph at the entrance turn 8, I didn't fall and I finished the race last but at least I didn't crash!
The bitter part was that when I ran off track I bent my Marchesini wheels, the front was bad enough that Dunlop said it was unsafe to mount a tire on. The rear was very slight. I am hoping this can be straightened ok, I was given a name of a fellow who does this in Napa.
At least I came back on track and finished the race avoiding a DNF!

| Re: AFM Round 4 Turn 8 was not kind to me, either. I lost the front on 8 and went tumbilng for a while. I was flat out in 5th gear and both the bike and I went all over the place once we hit the dirt.
I'm typing one handed. Wrist screwed, back, ribs, thigh and fingers bruised. Gear took a real beating. Bike looks bad; but, fixable. I may be back by Bwillow. |

| Re: AFM Round 4 eeeeek, sorry to hear about your get off, turn 8 isn't the preferred turn to crash in. I saw you in the pits wearing a sling but didn't get a chance to stop by and see what happened. How did Leigh do?
Reckless, Wrecking a set of Marchesinis would have me in tears. Give "the frame man" a call (they are in Sacramento), they straightened my PVM once. What happened in turn 6 on the first lap of the Open SBK race? I thought I saw you dirt tracking.
Boomer, What happened in Open SBK? According to the results you only completed 1 lap.
I had a pretty good weekend. Didn't get the lap times I was shooting for but I made some improvements to my riding that made it a lot easier to turn the times I'm at now more consistently. In Open GP I got a good start but got boxed in going through the first two turns. Once we strung out I picked off a couple of guys, diced w/ one guy for a couple of turns then gapped him and ran a lonely race to the end. Finished 8th. In Open SBK I was gridded pretty far back since I had a mechanical at the Sears Point race and didn't get any points. Got a good launch again but got my ass handed to me going through the first couple of turns. Red flag came out and I had a chance to redeem myself. On the restart it was about the same but I didn't loose as many spots (starting on the inside at Thunderhill sux). Once we strung out I started picking people off again but they were mostly yellow plates so I thought I was pretty far back in the pack. After the first couple of laps I got lonely again and finished in 16th. These are my best finishes so far but then again a few of the fast guys didn't show up this weekend, I'll still take it though. See you guys a B-Willow next month. |

| Re: AFM Round 4 Oh yeah, tried slicks for the first time! AMAZING grip! I spent the whole practice session in the morning trying to get them to slide. It wasn't easy. I was totally impressed! |

| Re: AFM Round 4 good to meet you, cowboy.
I'm out for bw. I may still make it down, but my radius is fractured.
I'm so bummed. I had gotten down to 2:09's in friday practice and found some places to go faster on sat.
I havent torn down the bike yet. It doesn't look pretty.

I told you slicks were the cat's pajamas. they do have a limit, though |

Cowboy
I made a serious error in judgement trying to set up a pass between 8 & 9, I ran up on the outside of the rider in front of me anticipating his turn in when he decided to swing out to the right side before executing the left turn into 8. This left me with no way to turn in and still have a chance of making the corner without taking us both out so I took the option of running straight off into the field at 100+ mph. I don't know how I kept the bike up as I was sliding all over trying to get it slowed down enough to re-enter the course. Apparently when I came back on the track I had not anticipated the abrubt track edge and think this is where I damaged the marchesini's.
Fortunately for me Gerry Piazza (the frame and wheel guy from Napa) was able to repair my wheels early Monday morning so I could get back to Thunderhill today for another day at the track!
The front wheel (magneseum) had to be welded & sealed to make the repair work. I tried them out today and they worked flawless!
as always ...... Reckless929 |
