| Team Fear at Grattan! Heavy D and FearJ did ( most of ) a three hour endurance race with Fasttrax at Grattan today, which I got to see. They did really well, cutting very consistent laps in intense traffic. If it hadn't been for a failure of an Attack Rearset peg, they would have kicked a little ass, I think.
edit: clarification
The peg fell off the R6, was found, and eventually re-installed with a bolt from HD's Honda in the best 'Junkyard Wars' tradition. Lost a lot of laps (20 minutes?) , but finished the race.
In the meantime, they had lots of support, including their very nice, attractive, and supportive wives.
A very respectable debut !
...and I'll let HD tell you why he might not sell his 954 after all

Friday at Trackoholics, first session. A GSXR accelerated hard over the ripples, went wide, got in the weeds, and they were picking up oil for the next 20 minutes... |

| Re: Team Fear at Grattan! I was in the scoring tower recording laps with the master clock, which doesn't go to tenths, so these are probably within a quarter second..
Jim was consistently under 1:36, with a string of 1:32's. Look out, oldgoat !!
Dan was usually around 1:38, with some 1:37's when he was clear of traffic. Inexplicably, one lap I swear he came around in 1:31. That might be a mistake, but I don't think so. I was expecting to see him coming around 10b, when he crossed the line in a fast pack of riders. I'm like, WTF? Wrote down the time and subtracted repeatedly. Beats the **** out of me...
They did so many laps it was ridiculous. It's easy to see you have to be in great shape to do this. The tires were pretty shredded by the end.. |

...and I'll let HD tell you why he might not sell his 954 after all | A very special tks to CBRVFR for all your help...I only wish I could have bought you dinner. We very much appreciated your help & it was great to see you again
All things considered (yeah...outside foot peg falling off in T1 with Heavy Dee aboard) we had a great day. The weather was ideal and I posted was posting times (31-33) better than my goal. We ended the race w/o incident other than the expected....toe slider is toast and the lower right body panel suffered some road rash from the lean angle in T7 before the bowl.
My special moment was doing battle with a Duc We were going tire to tire for much of 1 endurance session until he downshifted too many gears in T6 and high sided right in front of me. He walked away but I'm sure he brain got rattled because he landed face first in the track. By the time I came back around he was sitting up.
BTW...if the ambulance flag is out during a race are you allowed to pass? I didn't but others did. |

| Re: Team Fear at Grattan! Yup, thanks a ton to CBRVFR for doing the dirty work of counting laps as well as moral support. It was really good to have you there and I appreciate you making the trek out.
BAD NEWS: The 954 is off the market again. Thanks to my lowside in T1 in the morning. Note to self. Don't ever, ever, ever let off the gas in a turn. NO MATTER WHAT! Tucked the front and slid on my right side/back until I hit the gravel then I tumbled 3-5 times. Really glad I bought those Alpinestars SuperTech boots. I had a light sprain in my left ankle which already feels tons better. My left middle finger is swollen pretty good, but it will be fine in a couple weeks. I can still type so no disability claims!! Small hole in the right forearm of my leathers, but no rash on me. In all, I'm very happy w/ how my gear performed, and while sliding on concrete at 75 mph was kinda fun, I don't really want to do it again.
The bike: There isn't too much plastic that is not at least scratched thanks to the gravel. There is a dent in the tank, and the right lower is worn through w/ lots of rash. Tail section is cracked on both sides. Pipe is rashed. Rear brake lever is bent. Fairing stay has issues. Right frame slider is toast. I think the upper may be okay, but I'm guessing that it is scratched to chit too, but I need to inspect closer.
In all it could have been a lot worse. I'm walking and talking so I have that to be thankful for. The bike can be fixed, but I'm just bummed about the financial loss. But, you know that this is a possibility or even a likelyhood when you get into it, so I can't be too upset about it.
THE RACE: It went well. But I struggled b/c of my fall in the morning and being on a bike that was not my own, and felt very different from mine. I was scared the whole time, not for my safety, but b/c I didn't want to crash fearj's kid's bike. That's right, his kid's bike. Dude woulda killed me.
I didn't really have any incidents, but got the chit scared out of me when some chump passed me on the outside going into the bowl and cut accros my front wheel w/ about a hair's width to spare. According to Fearj's laptime my best lap was a 1:36 which I'm very happy w/ considering the head trip I was working against. Had I had my confidence it's possible I could have done better. I never really got comfortable on the bike. Which may be for the best. I'd rather crash my bike then my buddies any day of the week. Towards the end of the race I was just out there crusing around trying to get it home. The term "rolling chicane" comes to mind.
It was an experience that's for sure. I'll race again, but I want more tracktime first.
HD

| Re: Team Fear at Grattan! HD, I'm glad to hear you're okay. Hang in there, things will be better with time. I know what you mean about buggering up someone else's ride. I won't even accept an offer to ride someone's bike even if we are related!
I've always wondered about something with endurance races and multiple riders on the same bike. Are suspension settings changed for each rider when they take over, or is it one setting fits all?? |

| Re: Team Fear at Grattan! Congrats guys. Sorry I missed it. I been so damm busy and the wife actually made plans for what free time I have on top of trying to get Boos Gixxer back on the grid, I had to head home.
We did meet some of the Fasttraxx people who showed up for our trackday. Really nice group.
Missed Bob Stanley though.......
Again congrats on making it through your first mission. Bet you have a new understanding of Boo's speed now and why I let him do the racing
We going to see you at Nelson again next month?
