First of all, for those that don't know about Barber...this is a one of the best tracks in the USA. There is also a motorcycle museum that kicks arse! I took some pics of the museum but it would take hours to check out all the bikes!
I was disappointed in the track surface...the seams have now settled and are now bumps...mainly over the blind hills are the bad spots...it was not like that last year!
My races: CCS (championship cup series;
www.ccsracing.com) grids you by when you preregister. I wanted to do good at Barber and registered back in April....it paid off as I was on the pole for all races (first grid position). This was also double points weekend!
GTO (timed race: typically a 25 min. race) Scheduled for Friday. Due to running late and a few red flags on Friday the race was shortened from 20 min. to 6 laps and rescheduled for Saturday. Well the starter forgot about the 6 laps and the race was actually 15 min. long. I had a good start and was leading. A quick 600 bike soon show me a wheel and passed me. We battled back an forth dicing through lappers. I was leading on lap 6, which should have been the end of the race...it went on and the quick 600 got a head of me and I was held up by slow experts. So I thought I had second place. I didn't formally protest...the guy that won wasn't in my region so points didn't matter....I did bitch to the race director and he was aware of the screw up and seemed concerned. When I picked up my plague it was a first so they must have rescored the race. Ok. I'll take it!
Unlimited SuperSport 6 laps. Again started on the pole. Had a good start...may have been first into T1 can't remember but either way I was in the lead all of the race. On lap 4 someone went off the track and into the gravel pit (slows riders down like a sand trap) Gravel was all over the track as I came into the 'alabama coaster', a down hill chicane. The race line wasn't really covered w/ gravel but scary nonetheless! Next time by that turn the Red flag came out...a rider was down in the middle of the track. The race was not restarted and I got 1st.
Unlimited Grand Prix 6 laps. Again started on the pole. I was 3rd into T1. Quickly passed the number 2 guy out of T3. Then it was me and Dan...a guy who was pitted next to us. Nice guy that I gave some tips to...never again! He listened and learned....I was totally supprise when he out braked me into to T1!...I brake wait late and rarely get passed on the brakes! Dan has a full 1000cc bike with more HP then me but it's a bit heavier then my Honda. He would pull away on the straights but I would catch right back up in the chicanes and last set of turns on the brakes. We were swapping the lead back and forth. I didn't see the white flag come out but knew I had to take the lead back on this lap...I knew it was the last or next to last lap... I got a solid drive into T14 (an increasing radius turn...tightens up), jumped on the inside of Dan and stuck the pass. We cam around T15 and I saw the checker...I was so worried the 1000 would out pull me to the finish line, but I had a good drive out of T15 and held him off for the victory!!!!
So 3 wins with double points...that leaves me sitting pretty in the points for my classes!!!! Hopeing to win the points championship for my classes...and will if I don't fudge up the other races and just get solid finishes the last 2 races & at the ROC (race of champions in Miami).
Action shots! Looks like these were mostly during practice.
