| Find the right track bike for me.. I'm going to buy a track bike soon; I'll mainly be riding at summit point.
I'm about 190 5'10. I've considered putting the 929 on the track but would like to get a separate bike. Considering r6 99-02. Right now I'm using a friends r6. I would like to stay away from v-twins.
I need suggestions please!! |

| Re: Find the right track bike for me.. If you ever plan on racing, stay away from 600's. Those classes are insane...at least in California. How about a 400 or even a 636 or GSXR750? If you even have the smallest desire to try a race, then don't get a 600.
600 supersquid, 600 stupidbike class. |

600 supersquid, 600 stupidbike class. | I couldn't agree more. 600 class is where all the rookies seem to start. Lots of crashes. |

| Re: Find the right track bike for me.. Not sure if it's an ideal track bike for you, but my 954 is for sale in Delaware. It's basically brand-new (980 miles.) You could put the 929 on the track and use the 954 as a street bike.

An SV makes an awesome track bike and race bike with propper mods. It's so forgiving and smooth unlike those edgy 600's these days. |

| Re: Find the right track bike for me.. Buy a race ready SV...or any new 600 race ready. The guys are right the 600 class is rough...especially the AM's!!! Always tons of red flags.
FYI: you can't race a liter as a AM in wera....but you can in CCS. The unlimited classes are less packed and less scary than the middle weights (6s).
If your green get an SV...that will teach you corner speed...and that's what is all about! |

I also hear that the EX500 racing classes are pretty rewarding and the franken-bikes people can build make it even that much more interesting..

He said he didn't want a Twin so that's why I have steered from pushing the SV650 but I really do think it's a great bike to start out on for the track or for racing. Cheap to maintain, cheap to mod, still very fast and smooth. |

| Re: Find the right track bike for me.. I think it's smartest to get something little and cheap like and SV650 or GS500 for the first track bike, especially if you're considering getting into racing. If your goal is strictly track time and you're a master of your own behavior, a 600 or 636 would probably keep your interest longer, but I can't possibly see getting bored with an SV.
You'll learn a LOT faster if you can't mask cornering mistakes with straight line speed. And you want to have something you won't mind leaving in a smoking, mangled heap when you have an idiot moment and toss yourself into the weeds.
I have a friend (CRA #80) who can run in the faster half of the 600 races with his SV. I have another friend (CRA#34) who ran at the front of the pack on an SV, bought a 636 with dreams of AMA, and scared himself silly on that thing and could barely finish last. Now he's got it for sale (I can shoot you his contact info--it's a smoking deal) and wants to go back to an SV.
And the other contributors here are 100% correct in the fact that middleweight novice (600s) races are frought with catastrophic idiot moments. Watching any novice 600 race from the first turn at any track will show you who you're sharing the track with.
