My first race weekend with the ZX7

We went to Oak Hill in Henderson, TX for the CMRA races. It freakin rained all day Saturday thanks to Ivan so I was prayin for the sun to come out Sunday, which it finally did. I entered three races Sunday: unlimited classics, formula 1, and novice superbike. Never really had a chance for a good finish since this was the first and only race weekend of the year for me and starting from the last row doesnt help.
I didnt finish last in any of the races so it wasnt a total loss. This was my first time at Oak Hill so I had to learn the track. My first practice I was turning 1:48s and finally got to 1:40s at the end of the day. I think I could have broken into the 1:38s or so as I found several spots where more corner speed was available.
The biggest problem was with the bike. I have never raced a bike with flatslides so the weight of the carb springs was something new to contend with. All the FI bikes I owned like the 929 and 954 spoiled me rotten. Its a little disconcerting when the carbs hit as hard as they do in mid-corner.
All in all it was pretty fun. My buddy's son turned 1:31s on his SV all day long making me look bad. Its ok though since he has been an expert for 4 years.

Congrats on getting the ZX7 out there in races. Don't recall if you've ever posted pics, wouldn't mind seeing the ZX7 if you've got them.

What is the issue with the weight of the carb springs? What does that mean?

Bummer about starting last row. At least your having fun out there!

Funny how on the tighter/twistier tracks the fast guys run about the same lap times no matter what bike they are riding. Makes you think to yourself "so what's my excuse?" Oh yeah...I'm just slow. I will get plenty of that this weekend.
