| Colder weather track days?? I'm doing a track day on the Oct 30th summit, trying to get some tips for the trackday..
I'm hoping the weather is going to be at least 65 degrees but i'm trying to prepare for the cool!
What do most people wear under suit, should i be worried about track conditions, things like that..
Post up some suggestions! |

| Re: Colder weather track days?? Common sense dude, some form of long underwear until it warms up and cold track surfaces have less traction. Dial it back a tad. |

| Re: Colder weather track days?? Definitely be careful if the temperature is cool. The track surface can actually take heat out of the tires if it's cold enough. Highsides are more common on cold track days...

Post up some suggestions! | I'll be up @ Summit that day riding Jefferson with NESBA. Will you be riding with NESBA at Jefferson? If you are, look for a blue CBR 600RR in the beginner group (that's me) or a FUBAR'd Gixxer 600 (my friend whom I'm going with). |

| Re: Colder weather track days?? I find a wind shirt helps, too. Long undies under the suit will be good.
The Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point is very slippery on a normal, warm day, so be extra careful on that course when it's cold and/or raining. They practice with police cars on it, so they dump antifreeze and crap on it. I personally won't ride it, but some people actually like it. Just take it easy. |

| Re: Colder weather track days?? I just did a cold day at Putman in Indiana this Saturday. The high was 50 degrees with nearly complete cloud cover. I wore long johns and thick wool socks, and a parka between sessions.
I kept warm enough with that, even with perforated leathers. It was the tires that were having the problem, not so much me. It was like riding on Jellow for most of the day. The tires were wiggly for at least the first three laps for most of the sessions, and never got warmer than about 80 to 90 degrees. As I learned the track and went faster, I was able to get a little heat into the tires which minimized the wiggling. There was still not a lot of traction.
Saturday was my first time on this track and I still had a blast. The next day was much better, with a high of 60 degrees and sunshine all day long. That made all the difference in the world for traction. I knew the track by then, and my buddy and I kept trading best lap times. Tag, you're it!!
I also got rid of my used up Diablo Supercorsa rear and tried out a Diablo Corsa. Great tire! Even when I was scrubbing in it, it was surprisingly good. After it was scuffed in, it actually had better traction than my over heat cycled, paper thin Supercorsa. I highly recommend it as a trackday tire. I was running a Supercorsa supersoft on the front, which I kept. I changed out just the rear. |

That's why they call it "Slippery Point" (Summit Point). |
