sportbikeswest.com Racing update.......

#1 | | | sportbikeswest.com Racing update....... As some of you know, I have a website named sportbikeswest.com. With the help of a few friends, I'm going to start a new race team under the name "sportbikeswest.com Racing." So far it's just me, but there will be a few others joining by next season. My bike is almost ready, but I need at least one more track day to get used to going as fast as needed to be competitive at Wilow Springs big track.
Called today to get my race number reserved, and will be at the "New Racers School" on Saturday Nov. 20 to qualify for my license, then my first race the following day. I have 3 sponsors so far, and am looking to add some more soon. After the USA made Dunlop issues I had the last track day, I'm not sure what tire I want to go with yet, guess I had better figure that out soon though, lol.
Sponsors: http://Almostillegalracing.org, http://crazyvinyls.com, and Scott Rivera for tires .
Almostillegalracing.com is the guy that did my paint, he's going to do whatever work I need for free, and I will just buy the materials.
crazyvinyls.com is doing all of the stickers for my bike for free, and a huge discount on whatever else I want to have done.
Scott Rivera is a cool friend that has donated $$ to help pay for tires.
Exicted & nervous at the same time.
I'll post up pics of the bike when it's finished and looking pretty .

Sponsorship never hurts.
Depending on how my schedule pans out of the next few weeks I may be in new racer school with you at WSMC on the 20th.
Hoping to race Heavyweight novice.
Good luck to you. I hear that middleweight class is really competitive.
There were only 8 guys on the grid for heavyweight twins last month. Maybe I outta buy a twin.
Take care. |

| Re: sportbikeswest.com Racing update....... Hopefully I'll see you out there. I'm trying to get out there on the 8th to test the bike out and see if things are ok....my fingers are crossed for the bike and the 8th due to the possibility of travel once again possibly getting in the way of track time. |

I'm doing STAR school in Pahrump on the 6-7th and was thinking about hitting Willow on the way back on the 8th but the only track day I knew of going on (Sport Bike Rentals I think) got cancelled.
Did I miss another track day org even for that day?
thanks. |

Just reread your post. What happened with the Dunlop's ?? I"m thinking of getting a set for next years Trackdays. | Thanks oldgoat .
The rear tire wore out in less than one full day, and gave me a couple major slips in the process. The Dunlop guy told me "The USA made tires are only for 75% of the people, the other 25% will need the English version." The front seems to be good for another track day, but I wouldn't get the USA made rear if I was you. A friend told me his buddy went through a USA rear then very next day at Willow Springs . Super Corsas seem to last the longest. Got 4 1/2 track days out of a set, 2 1/2 was at grattan . Quote: |

Thanks for the confidence, lol. Maybe we can get Latebraking to come out and show us all how it's done next year . Can't wait for the time to go out there again! Told my wife "Plan on me going to Grattan again next year," and she said "I thought it was a once in a lifetime thing?!" That excuse worked great for the last event .

| Re: sportbikeswest.com Racing update....... I Heard a similar story bout the US amde GP-As getting thrashed in 2 days at T-Hill on a ZX-6RR--SPEED see SBR thread---Personally I'd go w/the 190 British tires anyway for DOTs at least---I use the 195 slicks--but they are prolly too big for a 600RR.
Regarding contingency $$$, Unless you are gonna be in the top "3" of a major race, in the expert class (which is hella---Unlikely in the AFM)---contingency $$ is close to nil, some have $50 for top novice, some dont---I wouldnt make that a major factor in tire choice---if you look at the WSMC or AFM top 5 lap times and see if you are close---that would be an indication, unfortunately --you will be starting last--so it will be difficult to win races unless you are 2-3 seconds faster than the leaders---which is Hella--Unlikey, unless you can spank the like of C Siglin, J Tigert, or A Carmen--who all place in the top 20 of the Sears Point/Laguna AMA races---Again, this is for AFM, maybe WSMC has "novice only races"---dunno |

| Re: sportbikeswest.com Racing update....... OK I don't know If I will make it up there this month it will be the first month I will not be at the big track I have a lot of school stuff to do First for the new racer school just grab something to drink and maybe a piece of fruit to eat you will not be getting on the track till 12noon so laugh at all the other new racers showing up in their leathers with helmet in hand. Second make sure your bike will pass tech safety wire every thing you can think of and make sure your belly pan has a dam that will hold 4quarts of oil. Third have someone who knows what to do with your bike when you come off the track I.E. putting the bike on stands, fuel, tire warmers if you have them, and a drink for you with a powerbar or some snack. You will have to head right to the class when you get off the track so park close to the tower if you can. Remember you only have to do under a 2:00 min lap time to get you license so don't push it and crash if you crash during the new racer school you will have to wait till next month to get it. Save the pushing it to the race just work on some lines and setting people up for passing I think you will find you will be able to pass most when they are on the binders.
Have Fun. |

Thanks Trackho.
Yes, WSMC does have "Novice Only" races thank God, lol. I've been thinking about going to the 190-55, probably do that and the gearing before the next track day, along with adding a timer.
Jeremy toye was out amongst us the other day, and was flying like a mad man!! Was able to follow him through turns 3-4, then he was like a ghost, lol.

Dude, you gotta make it out next month!!!!!!
Thanks for the great info . I did find that most people in the race group were braking early last track day. Working with Nick D at Grattan this year really helped me in that regard.
Crashing would definately suck durring school, lol. I'll keep it under control .

Once I get some tires I feel confident with on the bike, really think I can do the 1:28's or better. How many people usually in the 600 Novice class?

If you get into the frist wave if you are cutting 1:28 or lower you will be the man on the move. |
