| 1st and 2nd Went to the first race for CMRA this last weekend and came back with a 1st in the 4 hour mini endurance and a 2nd in my sprint class.
We won the 1st in the Formula 7 class on a brand new NSR50 that was bone stock. Rode with the 15 year old son of my buddy. This kid is awesome fast on every bike he rides. Makes me wish I could have been racing at that age. There were 7 protests to our win. The funny thing is that there were only 7 teams in our class so one of the protesters had to come from another class! We went home with the win in the end though.
I ran my 1991 ZX7RR in the unlimited classics division and had to start from the 19th row in about 40th position out of 43 bikes. I finished 2nd in class and 20th overall. There were only 7 bikes in my class along with a bunch of SV650s in the race. The race was shortened to only 7 laps because of time constraints due to weather. That is another story.
We had four bikes in the trailer with mine being closest to the rear door. Well, mine just had to fall over on the way down there (a 6 hour trip). No damage other than a small rub mark on the left lower and 4 gallons of 111 octane gas lost. The weather for Saturday was overcast with intermittent sprinkles but it didnt interfere with the handling of the NSR50. That was the first experience with a two stroke mini for me and it was a blast. Pretty much wide open the whole way around Oak Hill race track.
Saturday practice started and I went out for my novice session. Somebody had to wad their bike up and got the session red flagged. I came back to our pit and heard a strange sound coming from my bike. Turns out that the spigot leading from the motor to the radiator hose on the left side had developed several small holes in it. Had to do emergency surgery with JB Weld to fix it. It ended my practice session but did temporarily fix the problem. We went dinner and returned only to find my gas tank leaking big time. Turns out a gas line had been pinched and developed a leak. There went another 4 gallons of 111 octane!
Sunday came early and was again overcast and windy. The skies opened up and dumped a lot of rain early. The wind kept blowing and dried the track a little bit. Most guys were scrambling for rain tires but I decided to stay with the DOT Michelin M2s. Glad I did too. A second place finish from that far back in the pack will definitely help out this season.
All in all it was a good start. |
