| Re: Who here are members of WERA, or other racing organizations. OK, Guys, thanks for your posts.
Basically I see WERA, CCS, CRA and / or CMRA. Are these all intertwined in any way or are they each their own competetive entity?
To start, a friend and I were talking about some racing as a hobby, each with our own bike. There's alot of costs we can share, trailer, travel costs & hotel & such, help each other with repairs, etc as we will be probably in different classes. I'm thinking about running the TLR, and he wants to do 600 or 750.
Do different classes in amateur racing run the same weekend?? I would assume yes.
I know you have to do a racing school of some sort in order to get your racing license, but are there any other hidden qualifications?
To you guys in the Micigan area, how many races do you do a year, and where?? I know of Grattan ( obviously) and I've been to Gingerman ( IMHO), but what else in close?? I mean, we're looking at something we can take a half day off Friday and travel to, then come home Sunday night. Also, what is a normal schedule for qualifying, practice & race, etc?
How competetive would Novice class be?? Are there Rossi wannabe's there who are basically unsafe to be around, or are these people controlled pretty good?
On the average, what are the costs per race over a year?? I'm talking directly bike related only, like entry fees, license upkeep & dues, transponder, tires, gas, maintenance like chains & sprockets, brakes, etc. (Travel is easy to figure out and estimate, the rest isn't.)
Now, many of the above can be answered by travelling to the tracks a couple of times over the summer, meeting racers, and discussing our concerns. But if the answers you guys provide here dampens our spirits at all, I guess we won't bother anybody at the tracks.
Thanks for reading guys, and thanks in advance for the time you spend answering the above. |

The middle weights (600s) seem to have the most squids (more red flags) and have the fullest grids. If your running the tiller, I believe you would be in a heavy weight class (for ccs anyways) It's nothing like the squids 600 classes...smaller grids. Honestly, Don't let it worry you, it's part of it. No way around it. You'll usually see the squids in practice and make a mental note to stay out of there way. If someone is really unsafe the org will usually tell that person to watch it.
I can tell you what I spend on an avgerage CCS weekend. Over 1000$ You can get by much cheaper but I go through rear tires quick and run race gas. If you win some certs will really help you...I've races for 300$ one weekend cause I had tire & entry fee certs..just cost me gas/lodging/eats.
500$ New 1 front, 2 rear tires.
3 unlimited classe entries 210$ 70$ per race but gets cheaper after each race for non money classes..70 for the 1st, 50 for the 2nd...mine are paying so it's 70x3.
Gas/race gas. 200 for the truck, 120 for 10gal of race gas.
Hotel....? I try to camp..20$
gate fee 5-10$
Hit the ccsracing site for there rule book it will explain the entry fee costs better....

I figured Novice wold be the biggest diff in speed & times, but I didn't realize the smallest grids would be in that class.
What I meant about Rossi Wannabe's in Novice was do the org's control the people with a fast bike but the speed skills of a 4 year old on a tricycle. I'm sure they're out there, but do they get their wrists slapped??
$1000+ a weekend!! $1300+ Canadian. And that's no maintenance except for tires! Gonna to have to think this through. That's an expensive hobby. |

Most of my questions I posted here are more of a personal nature, kind of opinions and personal experiences I guess. It just pisses me off that the closest track is 3-1/2 hours away (but there's three that distance).
I think the thing with Wifey is that her, and the wife of the guy I've been planning this with, are bestest buddies, so it's a weekend away for all 4 of us a few times a year. (plus it keeps me off the golf course for that weekend!!!) |

CMRA used to be affiliated with CCS until last year. CRA is more of a "club" started at Brainerd in MN but they also run an event or two at Mid-America Motorplex (close to Omaha, NE). If you get your license with one club, all you need to do is pay your fee to get licensed with the others. Quote: |

| There will typically be two full days of racing per weekend. Your bike should be legal for at least 2 or 3 classes if you keep it under Supersport rules. Quote: |

| Some Novice racers are completely safe and some will scare the hell out of you. Like mentioned before, the Middleweight (600cc) classes are the craziest and will take care of most of the wannabees. I started out on the RC51, so you'd be racing the same classes I did. In my experience, the Heavyweight classes were pretty sane.

For instance, I see 3 at Grattan (including a 6 hour endurance race), 1 at Mid-Ohio and 2 at Garretsville OH. That would seem to be the only races I see that could be consideres local (within a few hours drive). |
