Freddie Spencer and Cool Pic

Freddie Spencer's Pro School
Just got bacj from the Pro school on Monday/Tuesday, I am still wondering why I didnt do it a year ago. Probably would have saved me a couple of crashes($5K+ in crash damage), and greatly improved my lap times/standings.

If you are an aspiring(or experienced) racer--you HAVE to go to this school. Do it before you buy the forged mags, Ohlins forks or what ever as the "return-on-investment" will be ten-fold.
We were very lucky that Ken Hill set this up for us and highly recommended it--I cant thank him enough.

Topics included trailbraking, throttle control, apex ID/usage, passing, turning the bike better and much more.

Freddie is a class act and spent ALOT of time with us transposing what we learned into applications at Infineon "trouble spots". there was a ton of one-on-one instruction on the track, and some assistance by Jason DiSalvo to boot.

The ONLY down side was that most of my F40 competition was there too

It was also slightly humbling that Freddie and I are the same age--hes won 2 MotoGP titles and a ton of othe stuff and I am still banging heads to get 10th place in F40--Oh well.

Do yourselves a HUGE favor and go do one of his PRO schools, it will easily pay for itself in uneeded bling and saved crash damage repair.

You can either wait until Dec---or go bug the **** out of Ken to set another one up--Sorry Ken

Update: Dropped 2 full seconds off my Infineon times---and felt ALOT safer doing it. I think that I can drop another 3-5 seconds if I keep practicing Freddie's advice.

The pic below was learning to trail brake thru the crasoul(T6) at Infineon--was a great place to pass

Great post...

I want to take the regular Spencer school pretty badly...but will probably take STAR's advanced school first due to proximity and cost issues...

I too have been lusting after Spencer's school. I like your advice about spending $$$ on that rather than performance mods we might be considering like wheels, etc. I had been thinking about that and I definitely would now seek more training first.

bwip--I had the same debate--as I was thinking that I was "needing" 16.5" Marchisini forged mags to drop the 2 seconds, cost =$2,500 which was approx the same as the Freddie Spencer Pro School (we had a special 2-Dayer for $2,300-10% for the HRCA discount)---ours was special cuz nobody could get 3 days off---so NO dirt bikes---I think the regualr 3-Day price is $3,500 (-10% HRCA discount)---so renew your HRCA card for $35---as it will save you 10X---

Via Freddie, I am prolly ulimately going to get rid of 6 seconds--that puts me at 1:41s at Sears which easily wins Open GP, F40, and puts me in the top 5 of Open SuperBike, top 10 of Formula Pacific---will it happen overnight--Hell NO--but I am confident that I now have the tools to get there--w/o burning up a Zillion $$ in tires/trackdays.

16.5" forged mags??? Yep---in the future, but only after I skim a few more seconds off via freddie-isms.

Prolly THE most important benefit of the FS instruction is it makes you faster but SAFER---each corner I have a mental checklist---if I do all properly--I can get on the gas sooner/harder/safer--NO more "hail Marys" getting on the gas TOO hard TOO early---cuz that will land you on your ass pretty quick---and it ultimately slower

Very cool, but Freddie never won a MotoGP title.

I thought you were a math guy... Can't you tell that a 500cc was at least half as easy to ride as the big 990cc man killers of today? Geesh.

Hey, I'm a Freddie fan. That's why I chose 91 (his # reversed).
