A couple of questions for you

1. Do you guys drill a small hole in your levers in case of a crash they will brake off and not ruin the whole lever, MC, etc...?

2. Do you guys run a catch bottle for fluid and fuel or do you have the "catch" bellypan and say the hell with it?

Re: A couple of questions for you

1. No, it's smart to do that, but I don't bother. You can't rejoin a race after a crash with any of the clubs I've raced with, and I always kept spares for both on hand. The PVM MC I had did have the end weakened though. That does remind me, I need to get some spares before I head out to Grattan.

2. Belly pan, but you have to watch the rules, some mandate catch bottles as well. And it is the smarter way to do it. Baby bottles are cheap, easy to find, easy to mount and work good.

I also am beginning to prepare for Grattan, that's why I thought I would ask you guys. I also ordered spare bars and foot pegs but I have a Brembo MC and they want around $60-$100 for a replacement. I thought I might drill some holes to be safe.

Could anyone give me an idea of how/where to mount the catch bottles? If the current breather is long enough should I just re-use that or buy new tubing? Do I run the tubing from the run-off line that is exiting the coolant reservoir or remove the reservoir entirely?

Re: A couple of questions for you

I do, as one of the race associations I raced with allowed you to continue after a crash. As for a tank, find out how many ounces your required to have, and just buy a small bottle at a camping store or whatever. They sell durable empty bottles for repackaging shampoo and such. Drill a hole in the top for your tube. Zip tie it wherever is convienient and wont chafe something important. As for belly pans, again, check the association as we had to run belly pans and catch tanks, even on two strokes.

Re: A couple of questions for you

I noticed that the breather leaving the coolant reservoir brances off into 2 tubes, what is the function of the 2nd hose and should I just remove it completely or leave it alone?

I'm staying away from you with all this talk of crashing!

Always remember at trackdays no one wins and at Grattan its slick in the morning.

+1
For my coolant resevoir overflow, I was ghetto and safety wired a mtn dew can to the headers and ran the tube in it. The rest of the overflows were run into a bottle in the tail of the bike.

Oh with the over flow bottles make sure the air can get in and out of the bottle. If you forget the tube will just keep poping out.

It's not that I'm planning on crashing. I'm driving 2000+ miles and the last thing I want to do is not be able to ride because of a broken brake lever. Too far and too much money spent getting there for a $20 part. Thanks for the tip about it being slick, when we get there maybe you could show me around

I've done neither, but likely should.
