Re: High Rock International Raceway

My folks live about 10 minutes from where they are planning to build it. They say there is a lot of resistance to it. Probably because it's not NASCAR related.

Not related to noise or traffic?

It's flanked by a river and an interstate highway. It once was the site of a textile mill - no noise issues at all and no traffic issues due to proximity to said interstate (I-85). There are practically no residences near the proposed site. The complaints are coming mostly from Rowan County residents.

If you've ever crossed that deathtrap of a bridge on I-85 over the Yadkin River between Lexington and Salisbury, you saw the site on the west side of the river where the deserted mill now stands.

I think it would be great, but there isn't much local support for it. Now if they were putting in an oval, that would be a different story. Not slamming NASCAR, just the mentality of my former neighbors (born and raised VERY close to there).

ah...

So they aren't resisting it? Just not supporting it? Looks like a great facility and since I am moving about an hour and a half from there, it would certainly be convenient for me!
