Re: Question for SV racers

I am SO close to buying an Aprilia RS250 as a track day and occasional race bike. I can't afford to race all season but I would perhaps like to do one or 2 races a year. I have talked to a few AFM guys and they say that the RS isn't competitive because they have to go up against the SV's in AFM. The RS250 gets around 60-65 HP so where does the SV stack up?

The SV doesn't interest me at all as a track bike (just get no vibe from it) but I also don't want to be totally uncompetitive on an RS250 during the occasional race. I don't want that possibility shut down before I even start. I know that they have RS categories at Willow Springs but that's pretty far to go for me. I would rather realistically stick to the northern tracks. Any ideas?

Re: Question for SV racers

An SV can be anywhere from 65 (this may be low) up to about 80+.

Plus the SV is not a 2 stroke so it is not as finicky. You really need to know how to tune a 2 stroke. From what I hear anyway.

I bet if you got the SV and gave it a chance it would win you over.

Re: Question for SV racers

As far as enjoyment of riding, I like the less commonplace 2-stroke and the light weight agility of it. The SV just seems so plain Jane and slapped together. When I look at my 929 it makes me want to jump on it and go. I get the same feeling when looking at the RS but not the SV. Being an engineer I never thought that the 'feeling' I get from a bike would influence me so much. The tuning and maintenance isn't really the issue.

I don't think I can afford a GP bike so that's out.
