| Re: Sell 954 for an SV Disclaimer: This is in reference to track riding/racing. Not street riding.
I have been trading PM's on the WERA board w/ a guy this morning who is trying to convince me to sell the 954 and go w/ an SV650 or at least a I4 600.
I know that that is what would be best for my development as a rider, and it might even save me some money. Also, WERA does not allow a novice to race a liter bike.
What to do? |

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV If you're really wanting to get into racing, that is the way to go. There's probably a lot more classes you can run with the SV as opposed to the 954. (Plus as you said, you can't run the 954 as a Novice). You can likely get an SV already track/race prepped. They're relatively cheap, and there are tons of spares available. Get a race-prepped SV and save the 954 for your street ride. My $.02 |

| That's what I'd do (actually, I'd get a CBR 600) unless you're done with street riding. |

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV I think that you are thinking this through in a good way. THe SV is a great begining track bike as it will allow you to make some stoopid mistakes and keep going, while it will let you turn good lap times at the same time. This past weekend at the WERA races in Nashville, there was a kid on an SV that was turning laptimes about 3 seconds off of the liter bike pros. This same kid cleaned house in the Heavy weight twins, Formula II, and a couple of other classes. Another benefit of the SV, is that , at least this weekend, there were only a dozen or so riders in the lightweight twins class, as opposed to almost 30 in the C Superstock novice (600cc).

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV Why not both? I got a salvage title SV for under 2 grand that runs perfectly and looks like $h!t already so I won't feel bad when I throw it down the track. I brought both bikes to the last track day and had a pretty good time.. |

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV FWIW, Bigkid from the board (owner of both a 954 and an RC51) has virtually sworn off street riding and pretty much lives at Mid America south of Omaha. While he's having a blast and learning every day, he is considering purchasing an SV for his dedicated track bike. He had an opportunity to ride a friend's only mildly modified SV the other day and within a half dozen laps was within about two seconds of his best time around the track aboard his RC. |

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV True...No novice liter class in WERA. *I was in the same boat....get another bike OR race CCS....CCS does have a novice liter class. *I decided since I already had 3k in mods to the 954 to keep it and race CCS starting in 04. *One down side is the entry fees for that class are 70$ each race...unlike some of the others...races get cheaper the more you enter in. *this is becuase they are money races (2k purse).
Another thing to keep in mind is your skill level...if your still new to the track...either spend a season OR 2 getting track time on the liter or get an SV and jump right into it.

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV Buy the cycle trader man, there's all kinds of stuff in there. Three years ago a friend of mine bought an enclosed trailer and a race prepped F3 with oodles of spare parts for $3k |

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV I just picked up an SV last week. *It has tons of extras + some crash damage but the guy gave me all the spares I would need to make it look pretty. *I am going to keep the 929 for now as street only. *Perhaps later I will ditch it for a smaller street friendly bike but since it's paid off I might as well keep it for a while. *The SV will be broken in at Sears Point/Infineon Nov. 11th. *I can't wait. *Next year I may do a couple of AFM races for fun but mostly just track days with it. *
Here are the specs...
2000 SV650 with title (~4k miles)
GSXR 1k forks/triples (with zoran steering bearing) (aftershocks)

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV I saw that one a little bit ago. I wonder how hard that girl has ridden it? I guess it doesn't matter, it looks in pretty good shape. Good luck with the purchase!
I was really surprised how much the SV rumbles with aftermarket exhaust and how much low end power it has. I guess it has no top end but that's the case with any twin. |

| Re: Sell 954 for an SV Well it is a stock motor so it should be more reliable than if it had been built. I have been trading emails w/ a guy that raced her and he said that she beat him every race on the thing. She did wreck it and hurt herself. There is a dent in the right sid of the tank and on the left it looks like some of the tail section has been repaired but not painted. I'm hoping I can get this one for under 3k, but there is another one that has not been wrecked, has new (rebuilt) tranny, and better bodywork for 3700. It is even closer to me. Not sure what to do at this point. |
