| Re: 929 race bike tips? Hi Guys :-)
I picked up my new race bike tonight.
It's a totally stock '00 929 with 9000kms on the clock.
I don't know a thing about Blades but I've got three weeks to race prep it for its first track outing on December 7th and then the race season begins at the end of February.
I'm going to scan through all the forums in here but I thought it might be worth asking as well :-)
The HISS worries me. Can I simply cut up a new wiring harness without encountering problems with the immobiliser?
The race glass doesn't fit under the stock header system so I can either modify the belly pan or replace the exhaust system. I'd like to be able to keep the midrange if possible. Is there significant loss of midrange in dumping the valve and fitting race headers? Would it be better to keep the valve and fit a slip-on can instead?
Are the 929's 'restricted' in any way?
Do the 929 engines have any weak points I should know about?
That'll do for now I think :-)
Be safe,
Larry

| Re: 929 race bike tips? A good exhaust, Micron, Hindle, Arata etc etc aren't going to do anything but drop 5-10 pounds off the bike, and add 5-10 Hp without any real losses.
The 929 motor is tough. Just keep the oil changed and the coolant full and you should be good. Make sure to safety wire your drain plug and oil filter. |

| Re: 929 race bike tips? Thanks for this.
I was speaking with a guy at the track today who's racing a Thunderace next season. He fitted a slip-on and took the valve out of the system. He likes the extra top end but really feels the lack of mid range now.
I've been racing a GSXR750 and stepping up to a bigger motor I'd like to be able to use the grunt.
Be safe,
Larry

| Re: 929 race bike tips? If you only do one engine mod, get a PCIII. A full system with a properly tuned PCIII will not lose any power anywhere and can gain 10 hp on average.
But even before that, I would recommend suspension work. The 929 is famous for dragging parts. Raise the rear but don't drop the front. Dan Kyle (a forum sponser) sells a dog-bone for the rear suspension that will help. And his handi-work with 929 forks is amazing. Much cheaper than buying complete aftermarket units.
