All set fair for first ‘real’ road race of the year
With full grids for the scheduled 15 races for the first ‘real’ road race of the 2009 season; all roads this weekend lead to Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough.
The event organised by the Auto 66 Club has attracted a superb entry for the event, including Gold Cup Winner Guy Martin who will ride the 2009 Hydrex Hondas.
Ian Lougher is going to be a busy man as he is entered on the 125,250,600 & 1000cc machines.
Lougher’s great friend and arch-rival at the hillside circuit, Chris Palmer will be making the trip from the Isle of Man to ride in the 125, 250, 600 and Open races.
Winner of the Ian Watson Spring Cup twelve months ago, Ryan Farquhar, will have three Kawasaki’s at his disposal for the meeting, as he commences the defence of his Duke Road Race Rankings title.
Making a welcome return to racing at the Mount, after injury at the North West 200 in 2008 is Darren Burns on his 125cc Honda. Also returning to the 2.43-mile course is fellow Ulsterman Andrew Neill.
The Dunlop brothers, Michael and William will also be endeavouring to take some silverware back home to Ballymoney.
Local interest centres on Keith Pringle, Ian Armstrong, Mick Goodings, Rodger Wibberley, Daniel Frear, David Bell and Craig Atkinson to name but a few.
The quality and depth the entry for the third running of the Ian Watson Spring Cup is second to none and with the weather forecast set fair, a day of close, exciting racing is on the cards.
The programme also includes the favourites with the crowd Formula 2 Sidecars, many times winner Conrad Harrison heads the list with Tony Thirkell from Thirsk, Greg Lambert from Catterick and Dave Wallis from Derbyshire, all looking for places on the rostrum.
The action packed programme starts at 8.30am with practice, followed by qualifying and the first race at 12.30, the organisers are expecting massive crowd for this first meeting of the season, with advanced ticket sales above expectation.
