| I need some skin!!! What would you do? I have a chance to buy a guys race plastic for $450.00. It's a complete set with nice paint.
The rub:
It was a set made from his original bodywork i.e. looks stock. I know from experiance that sharkskinz belly pans rub on turns. Has anyone used stock plastic with a makeshift belly pan durring a race (I've seen a few guys do that with their 929 but haven't asked them about it)? And did it rub alot?
The set in question has never been down, so it's still perfict but it uses the stock seat as opposed to the superbike seat for the sharkskinz.
My delema:
Do I get this set for $450.00 ready to go?
Or do I spend almost 1K on a set of sharkskinz unpainted?
Opinions welcome and encouraged.
Thanks!

| Re: I need some skin!!! What would you do? Hell, I'll sell you my modded 600 stuff and tailsection for $450 without the airbox and ducts.
I rubbed my stock plastic on the street, so it's probably at least like the sharkskinz, but for me it was more a cosmetic problem than functional.

| Re: I need some skin!!! What would you do? If you're concerned about the lowers rubbing, just run the body for a few track days. Once you have a good handle on where they rub, you can make adjustments to the fiberglass - either yourself or take it to a pro.
As for the stock seat thing, I ran the stock seat setup on my F3 and 929. I found it more comfortable than the seat pan with thin padding.
Just my $.02, but you'll come out ahead buying this setup even if you need to make adjustments. |

| Re: I need some skin!!! What would you do? Did this guy use his stock bodywork as a mold to 'glass his own? How is the quality? Lockhart/Phillips sells a complete set of new Hotbodies for about the same price (if you're in the Team Privateer program). The quality isn't near as good as Sharkskinz but you can't beat the price. Either way you're going to have to deal w/ the belly pan scraping, and if you ride like me you'll have to deal w/ the upper, the tail section, the tank, and your ass scraping too. |

It's sprung pretty well. I can't say what LTL was using for suspension.

| Re: I need some skin!!! What would you do? I was using .95's in the front, can't remember the rear spring rate.
Sharkskinz made a special lower for the Erion 600's and I got that one. They require a kind of release saying it may not clear the exhaust and such.(Since it was a 600 lower I was going to have to grind anyway) My 600 lower does not drag. You could ask Sharkskinz about a 929 Erion lower...
