| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down I live five minutes from AMP and totally agree that they are pretty much forcing AMP out. But if the owner of the track had been honest (left out a few things and misrepresented a few others) in getting the permits it would have been harder to close them down. Wrongs by both side screwed over the racers.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously revoked a special use permit for the Arizona Motorsports Park citing sound, crowd, and traffic issues.
| "sound, crowd, and traffic" Hello, it's a freakin' RACETRACK! People never cease to amaze me with their gross stupidity. Where the F were they when the damn thing was going through development? |

I've seen it too many times to count with other things like gravel pits, motocross tracks and firing ranges all having been there long before any houses. It seems that the stupid one's always prevail and I partially blame the level headed individuals for not stepping up and making more noise than the idiots.

There's a gravel pit that has been used by a concrete company for 15 or so years, but because some developer decided to build a neighborhood a stone's throw away (pun intended) the gravel pit is being forced to operate only during certain hours for now until they are forced out.
They've already put a stop to off road riding in there. The fact that the land is owned by the concrete company and they allowed riding on weekends means nothing to the city. Abuse of eminent domain runs rampant. |

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down What BDA said..... I have seen a couple gravel pits shut down that had been in operation for 20+ years because a housing development was built close by. The people that bought the houses knew the pit was there and that gravel trucks utilized the roads around the development, but decided to buy anyway. After a couple years, they bitched and moaned enough to get the pits closed down and thereby eliminated an awesome off-road & motocross area, which the companies provided free of charge.
The real kick in the balls is that the two main roads in the area were constructed, paid and maintained entirely by the company that operated the pit and the housing development was built between these two roads. So the losers get use of the roads which made their housing a reality. Now the second shot to the nuts is that after the companies were forced from their land, the home owners association sued them because of environmental impact and because a couple kids got hurt messing around in the area. Ironically, had the companies still been allowed to operate there, the kids stood no chance of getting in to get hurt. |

Asked what the specific issues were, Macias said he didn’t have all of the information in front of him but said, “There was pages of them…the number of people that could be at the racetrack, the number of cars that could operate there. I believe one of the supervisors made the point this morning that the original application said it was not to be a commercial venue, effort, or whatever. Yet the attorney for the racetrack this morning said that Subaru and Porsche had contracted to use the track for testing and had indicated that Honda motorcycles was also going to be using it. Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox said that sounded like a commercial activity as opposed to the private use that the Board had originally been told was going to be used there.”

i am all for racetracks and road courses but, if he misrepresented his intentions............. |

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down Jeez, is there no such thing as acquired rights in American jurisprudence.
Damn! Looks like people get screwed no matter what the circumstances may be. Sad, very sad.
Wait! I know! Counter-sue. That'll keep 'em busy for a least a few years. Meanwhile, the status quo
should prevail until a judgment is handed down. If they work the system right, that could take a real long time.
Go get 'em, AMP. |

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down Well, I've seen the same thing with Mesa Marin raceway, which runs Craftsmen Truck series and Supermoto events. It's been there forever, but affluent people have been building 1/2 mil to mil + homes less than 1 mile away, on the side of a canyon, and while the "Well, what did you expect?" argument has been holding back the closure and relocation, I see it as imminent given time.
We're talking about a County which opened an OHV park, and then a few years later sold the land to developers and shut it down. A county where the riverbed stays dry all year, yet they banned the use of Off-Road vehicles in it(until 2 years ago, in the middle of a drought, they decided to release a streams worth of water so residents and park goers bordering the river could "play").
Why all the off-road talk? Well, the AMA has been touting the "all-riders issues" for years, and if it's well established local government and communities can influence land use for off-roaders, it sets the ground work for attitudes for track and street riders.
I know local Governments have passed laws pertaining to "cruising". How long before roads like "Palomar", which street riders use and continuously piss off residents who live on the road, are posted with signs "Not open to motorcycles" or "No through traffic". Ask the muscle car guys of the 70's if you don't believe it can happen.

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down People make me sick!
We have the same problem here they closed down the oldest speedway in the world cause it was in the middle of a upper class area and the local residents didn't like it, took them half a century though.
We have Jandakot Airport near us that is used for training, it is very busy and the new residents in the new golf course estate that got built under the flightpath (thats way it was CHEAP dipsh!ts!!!) tried to close it down. Luckily the Airport fought back and got signs erected as you drive into the suburb that say it is a flightpath affected area and to expect noise. Now when the residents complain the responce is "Didn't you see the signs?" |

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down I won't even get into the local Sabino Canyon outdoor shooting range that had been here since 1952 ! Forced to close/relocate nearly 50 years later because developers decided to build their **** all around it, and the "new residents" groaned and whined, even though it had existed decades prior. PHUCKERS!!!!!

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down The decibel restrictions doesn't sound that bad at all. It's something like 95 decibels at 50ft from the outside edge of the track.
I'm just stoked that it might reopen! |

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down When AMP was built, the owners got their permits approved by saying it was to be a private facility, used only for occasional testing and not a public event racetrack. The boards approved this and they built it.
Then they start holding all manner of CCS and other car race series' there, all open to the public, and THAT'S why they were shut down, and THAT'S why they are in a court battle. They falsified their intentions to get cheap permits, so don't go feeling sorry for them and getting all rightous! They screwed themselves! |

| Re: Arizona Motorsports Park shut down The 954 is being transformed into a straight out track bike as we speak. I ride an ST1300 for the street. Heh heh heh, I know a grandpa bike. I love the hell out of it.
Hey hit me up on e-mail Rick972@cox.net. If you truely want to learn to ride and hangout with like minds, I'll send you to a great group of local guys and gals that ride the streets and track.
I've been back riding for about two years and I'm also still learning alot.
