Posted by: Admin on 29/05/2003 17:07:00 From:
It is with regret that the organisers of the Isle of Man TT Races, the Auto-Cycle Union, announce that David Jefferies, of Baildon in West Yorkshire, who crashed on the second lap of this afternoon’s practice session, received injuries, which proved fatal.
Thirty-year-old Jefferies was involved in an incident at Crosby.
The red flag was displayed at the Grandstand and all riders finishing their first laps were brought back into the paddock. Those who had already embarked on their second lap were halted at Glen Vine.
Jefferies was the outright lap record holder at the TT and had lapped at 125mph on his first lap today riding his 1000cc Temple Auto Salvage GSXR Suzuki.
The organisers have instituted an immediate enquiry into the details of the incident. from here |

I was just over at labusas, saw a similar post and thought (hoped) it was a joke....
unbelievable....he was amazing. *Godspeed D.J.
Here's the info from labusas....apparently from someone at the IOM:
From a friend with a race team over at the TT, he just sent me this e-mail.
Great sadness........
Quote:
thanks jeff...........but this happened today!
It is with great sadness that i have to report that David Jeffries has been
pronounced dead at the scene , after a flat out crash this afternoon.
although not offcially announced, i understand he was flat out in top gear 5
miles into a flying lap, after doing a 125mph standing start lap. the engine
gave way and he went into a bus shelter then a lamp post. Jim moodie who was
following has been airlifted to hospital but we understand he is relatively
okay.
practice was redflagged and then cancelled
all our thoughts go to his family, team and supporters
Eric

| Re: VERY sad news from IOM TT Story from the BBC... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/moto...es/2947854.stm
The audio says he was doing 170-180mph when he hit oil in the road near Crosby. *They said Jim Moodie, who went down at the same location, has been taken off the critical list, so that's one bit of good news amidst the bad. |

I don't follow a whole lot of racing, but IOM is something I look forward to every year. David Jeffries, god-like, is now among them.
Rest in peace, brother. |

| Re: VERY sad news from IOM TT A riding buddy of mine just e-mailed me some thoughts on the fatal crash and this is a snippet of what he said. A great passage I think. '....he competed knowing full well the dangers of the Island, and left the world behind doing what he loved best. We should all be so lucky....I bet that if there was a split second in which he knew his fate was sealed, he may have even cracked a smile under that lid....' |

I suppose he did at least know the risks & died doing what he loved, but unfortunately it's probably no real consolation for his family to whom, if I could I would pass on my best wishes. |

| Re: VERY sad news from IOM TT Last weekend on my trip to Alpine,AZ on Hwy 191 route known as the Coronado Trail I met six guys from Northern Ireland on rented BMW GS's out of SFO,touring the western states. It will be sad news for those guys on there holiday away from home. We were talking about Jefferies at that time and how it was going to be great to watch the TT.
Its sad news..RIP DJ |

| Re: VERY sad news from IOM TT That puts a dampner on my thoughts about the Isle of Man TT. Like others I realize some are injured & killed each yr. Main reason it was not part of the World Championship Series for GP bikes many yrs ago.
Jefferies an outstanding figure at the TT. I also wonder how Moody is as he went down in the same spot.
