If it's 3 sec off the lap record, it probably wasn't a Modena |

Oh forget it. He will be the next M. Schumacher. |

They do mention that he was wearing the same kind of helmet as Schumacher, so I'm guessing it was their 2003 F1 car. |

I wonder how many laps it took him to get times that low, and why he stopped there. I'm sure he could've came closer to the time if he had some more flight time |

Not knocking Rossi at all, but three seconds at Fiorano is a huge gap. Just for info, a couple of the F2002 engineers lapped Fiorano faster a couple years ago than Rossi did in the F2003.
Rossi is a great motorcycle racer, but he would get lapped in an F1 race. By many drivers. |

Fiorano is a small, tight track owned by Ferrari and used specifically for testing and development of their cars. I'd bet that if the other F1 teams could get their cars and drivers on the track they would all be much closer to Schumi's record there. Some may even best his time as it isn't a horsepower track, but a handling track.
The "long" course is just under 3km, the "short" course less than 1.5km. After looking into it, it turns out that Rossi drove the short course. A three second gap on a course that is under a mile long is huge.
Now I'm not saying he sucks by any means, or that with more seat time he wouldn't get better. I'm just saying that this test just proves that in his current form he wouldn't do jack in the F1 scene.
Let him drive a Jag or Minardi to within three seconds of Schumi's at one of the regular 5+km circuits and I'll be impressed.
Seriously, he very well could be a good F1 driver in time, but this test isn't anything great. |

Yeah, I'd say there is no probably about it. All of them could match his pace. 3 seconds in F1 is an eternity. I just thought it was impressive that someone who races motorcycles could get that close. I'm not sure if 3 seconds of the pace would even qualify at most circuits. |

Sorry if I was unclear, I meant to say what F1 driver could jump on RCV211 or M1 (or a comparable piece of equipment to that of the car Rossi drove) and follow Rossi around on anyone of the Moto GP circuits and keep up with him? |

| Re: Rossi tested a Ferrari F1 car today Oh, well that's a different story. At a place like the Streets of Willow (comparable to the Fiorano short track) one of the young guys (I believe it is Massa that used to ride motorcycles, but I don't recall) may come within 5 seconds or so, but at the actual circuits none of them would be close.
Of course, Rossi wouldn't be anywhere close to Schumacher at one of the actual F1 circuits, either. |
